So when I push on my rear wheel, it moves back and forth. That’s a symptom of what exactly? Wheel bearing? I ’m blanking on the name. I’ve been hearing a squeaking from that corner for about a week too.
Oh and I found out why I’m losing brake fluid. Both rear calipers lost their lower bleed screws. At least that should be an easy fix.

Definitely sounds like a wheel bearing.

I would say wheel bearing.

moves with the full weight of the car on it?
ima side with the others and go with bearings
but also thats a get it fixed asap

Wheel bearing is the same thing as ball joint? If so, yeah, probably it
![]() 08/23/2018 at 16:35 |

Most likely a wheel bearing, could conceivably be suspension, though.

Independent rear suspension?
I was going to say control arms (the ball joints in them, specifically). I can’t see the video, just going from what you’re describing.

yup thats a wheel bearing

jack up the car, hold the tire at 12 and 6 and if it rocks there its wheel bearing. if it doesn’t hold it at 3 and 9 and if it rocks there its a link or control arm.

Seems like a wheel bearing. My car had both the bearing and the tie rod go at the same time. So the wheel was moving in all the directions.
Do what hammerhead said.

what the squirrel said!

I'll do that, thanks!

Yep. Go figure things start breaking when I start to seriously look at Volvos...

lol yeah..... thems the breaks
everytime i think i have enough savings to go splurge on something things break too

Bearings bro!
![]() 08/23/2018 at 17:23 |

Not the same thing.

Be careful, I had a rear wheel almost fall off my car when the hub catastrophically failed.

Im disturbed that your brake fluid only slowly drains even though both rear bleed screws are missing
![]() 08/23/2018 at 17:56 |

The bearing is the one in the middle, and the ball joint is where the suspension arm attaches?
![]() 08/23/2018 at 18:12 |

Hmm. Should it be coming out quickly?

Always

Don’t want that. Do I fix it now or jump on a Volvo and shelf the Miata until the snow comes back...

Thi nk of how much fluid you go through when you bleed your brakes, you should be moving a spirt every time you press the pedal an appreciable amount, and the pedal is being used hundreds of times over a decent drive

I haven’t actually bled brakes since I installed these years ago . With all the pain and suffering I went through putting these on, I'm basically just resigned to having a shop take care of any brake issues beyond changing out pads

Fix it now.
![]() 08/23/2018 at 18:37 |

Maybe there’s a check valve in the system that only allows fluid after a certain pressure, and that pressure is not often reached. I think I know how to fix this though.

Can you post a video of it?

Sounds like you’re you’re rep lacing one wheel hub assembly unless you have a bearing press. Get you a new hub bub.

‘spension bushings?

You’re pushing up top. That’s a Miata.
STOP DRIVING IMMEDIATELY .
Miata is an IRS. Assume upper control arm failure . Under absolutely NO circumstances with suspension should you ever assume anything but the WORST, because this very easily can save your life. ESPECIALLY on a tracked car. Stop driving, pull the wheel, get in there and confirm.
I have seen the results of someone assuming the noise was just their wheel bearing. It wasn’t. It was the tie rod. It let go on the highway. They were still in a wheelchair when they picked it up.

bushes in rear suspension perhaps?
![]() 08/24/2018 at 08:13 |

Yes, the wheel bearing is the bearing the wheel spins on, the ball joint is the joint shaped like a ball.

Independent rear suspension? I was going to say control arms (the ball joints in them, specifically).
The rear has no ball joints, just bushings on each end of the control arm.
The described symptoms do sound like a wheel bearing
, but there could also be an issue with one or more of the control arms (or bushings). In any case, repairing the issue would be a very good idea before driving the car. If the wheel can be moved by just the force of a hand, that is a bad sign.

Yes, my bad -- bushing. I had the image of the part in my head, just the wrong end of the arm. I’ve only ever replaced front control arms because so many of them don’t allow bushing or ball joint maintenance like in the old days (unless you press them out against manufacturer warnings...)
