Ehhh, The Honda isn’t nearly as meh as the Toyotas.

You say the Mediocrity campaign backfired on them but they won awards off of that stuff.

Plus I own the car they advertised with it and I can assure you that it reaches no measure of mediocrity, at least not when compared to this.

ehhh, It’s not exactly an NSX to say it’s not a meh hybrid. there are plenty of hybrids just like the insight which drive like normal cars.

I nserting your brand logo into mediocrity.

When the market segment stakes are so low that is all a top level marketing agency can come up with.

Backfired in the sense that they ended up making the most mediorce legacy ever in the end. Almost every publication and youtube review said the revised legacy with that dreadful cvt was one of the most bland and boring cars in the segment. And yes I have driven the 2. 5i . The 3.6R made it slightly better. AWD was the only thing it had going for it.

They picked the wrong car for the ad campaign. They *might* have pulled it off with the Accord.

Go toss around a GT with the manual.

Agree. The Insight is basically the Honda verison of the Prius which you are mocking.

Go read my comment again. And then read it again.

I mentioned the revised version with the CVT in 2015 that the Mediocrity ad campaign refermeced or it could be earlier than that, not sure.

The GT version was stopped when? 2011? 12? Not talking about that at all.

All I see is some droning (lol) about the CVT. I recommended trying a GT. I never said you were talking about the GT.

All I know is, this ad makes me say, “ I’m going to fight me diocrity by driving a really great Honda: my Prelude from ‘97—w hich is worlds more interesting to drive than a goddamn Insight...”

I think the insight looks better than the accord, but honda’s new thing of “chrome unibrow + big geometric (fake) grille = design!” SUCKS. The insight’s front actually looks restrained and tasteful compared to the accord and civic.

The Mediocrity ad campaign was 2011. Check your dates.

I said I wasn’t sure. In any case it was around that time that they boring looking 5th gen with the CVT and discontinued the GT soon after...and then introduced the CVT even in the 3.6R in 2015 , not to mention the revised Toyota-ish styling. so mediocrity did succeed after all.

Succeed, yes, but the campaign was appropriate around that time. Also, I admire any company that takes radical ideas and mainstreams them so I think Subaru deserves some props for giving the world flat-four powers AWD sedans when no one else will, even if they’re linked to CVT boxes. Sure they’re no Mazda, but they’re not as willfully bland as  Toyota or Nissan either.

I actually really like the way the Accord looks (especially with the black grille) but I saw an Insight the other day and it is quite attractive.

The current Prius is just a mess.

The current Prius (especially the prime) is indeed a mess. The V and C were inoffensive and practical, why didn’t they continue down that route?
