I keep seeing ads on Facebook, and I wonder about the quality of this product. Svend?  Has there been a major improvement over traditional wax?

most of those are IIRC silicone (polysiloxane)-based coatings. like Rain-X or your typical “spray waxes.”  just puts a hydrophobic coating on the outside.

Not Svend here, but this is the link to his manifesto on car detailing:

He advised me to get a spray- on sealant for my new car, but for my mom’s, which had p aint swirls and scratches, he recommended Adam’s Buttery Wax, which has carnauba in addition to kind of fill in and disguise the scratches . It did a good job.

I’ve heard Hydrosilex making some noise as a new player to the market here in the U.K. it’s had some good reviews but very much an ‘also ran’ as they aren’t doing anything new, just trying to get established.

Like His Stigness says, there are trade offs between waxes and sealants, products like Adam’s Buttery Wax bridge the gap very well as the polymers do two things, they fill in/mask minor imperfections such as swirls and small scratches and give durability to the wax, while the wax does what it’s always done, gives a deeper depth of gloss, a warmer tone to the colour and generally a feeling of pride.

As he also said I use Gyeon Cure while he uses Reload, they are much of a muchness these days as they are standalone sealants, but can be used as drying aids or quick detailers.

If it's for the Sunchaser a traditional soft to medium was is great. Spray waxes have come a long way and are easier to apply and remove but if you want the look and feel of a wax but more durability take a look at Adam's Buttery Wax of another they do which is a great product, Adam's Guard and Gloss. Can be applied to all surfaces wet or dry, glass, plastic and paint, the GaG is initially pernicaty as you apply it with damp microfibres and buff with dry microfibres but you easily get a hang of it and looks good.
