I had some of that at a cigar bar one time. Between that and some other high gravity beers, I was shit faced.

I can’t believe you found it in a bar. This shit is so hard to find that it usually has a purchase limit when you do find it.

Drink two of those and you’re done for the year.

I appreciate that you think I’m not that much of an alcoholic, so you get a star.

I was surprised as well. Basically cemented my decision on what to get. Here’s me drinking said beer:

WAIT. Chess, rare beer, and cigars? What. The. Fuck.
Also, if you tell me that shit was on tap, I will hate you forever.

Apparently Greer South Carolina is the place to be.
Well, let’s just say it wasn’t in a bottle.

Of the “yellow top” (over 15% ABV) Dogfish Head beers I’ve tried, this was my second favorite behind the vanilla-oak- barrel-aged World Wide Stout. That said, I have a magnum of a local beer aging in my fridge that had 22% ABV when I bought it. It’s been there close to a year.

I met Sam Calagione at a bar/pizza place by me, and he bought me a free snifter of it. It was great.

I love stuff in the 7-9% range regularly, but this is one where it doesn’t pay off.
I’d rather drink vodka straight.
An acquired taste to be sure. Here’s mine tonight. Stone is the cockiest brewer in America for making so many mediocre beers. #hottake

Eh. I was unimpressed. And not at all affected. But I’m spoiled.
13.8% ABV.

That’s a lot of condensation, are you refrigerating them to age? That’s definitely the wrong way to do it. Keep them in a dark place in your basement, or somewhere around the 50 degree mark.

Is that a state thing? Originally, it was limited due to short supply. Now that it’s released 4x a year you can pick up a full case with ease.

I won’t discount they may have used an ecologically safe compound to affix the label.
Normally that picture would lead me to believe improper storage was at fault. Decades old wine stored in a cool low humidity vault doesn’t shed the label.

Therein lies the difference between somewhere that only takes small quantities of the best a distributor get their hands on and a bar. Especially if the rep especially enjoys the trip out to such a place.

I’m in New Jersey, so I hope it isn’t a state thing, since those fuckers are connect to our state.

This is a case/bottle from the last 8 years. The rest of the beer has been drunk during the winter months to keep me warm and fuzzy. Also, my one friend is an ass and always drinks 2 each session I bring them out.... which reminds me...I really need to start charging him.

The best story I have of Sam, is my wife surprised me with a trip to his hotel/brewery (yes my wife is fucking amazing). The first night we get to the inn kind of late and there is a fireside session, the lady said why don’t we wait out by the fire while she gets us checked in as Sam is popping by. Sure enough, he shows up and after about 20mins of talking he calls us out and says how come we aren’t drinking? I tell him we just got there and haven’t had time to run out and get beer . He pulls out two beers from his stash and hands it to my wife and me. He went on to shoot the shit with the crowd for the next hour or two. Later in the night during the middle of one of his stories (about Sam Adams) he calls the owner and we all sing to him. It was surreal.
Dogfish Head already had me with their beer, but Sam won my heart that night.

I’ve seen it here a the local high end growler fill place. I just can never pass up the Samue l Smith’s Oatmeal Stout, it’s so much better than the bottled.

“Ages well” means you can keep it in the back of your fridge for 5 years awaiting celebration of an important milestone, and it is just awesome. Best
split with a good
friend.
Highly recommended.
