Two more months until the Gods of Winter grace our m ountains with their heavenly presence once more. This... This waiting. It’s painful. I miss snow drives. The beauty. T he seclusion. The challenge. So many u nforgettable memories. Good and bad, but even the bad ones are remembered fondly with the passing of time.

I welcome the coming darkness.

One thing I loved about living here was the lifetime of brief summers. Now we have real summers. GIVE ME BACK MY DEPRESSING WEATHER DAMMIT

With that much power on tap I can only imagine how much fun you were having!

Right! ? I want to mope around and do the whole “introspective brooding artist” thing but wit’s not easy w hen it’s 95° for weeks on end.
Now i f we got an equally intense winter with a couple weeks of crazy weather and multiple big snowstorms......

It’s a blast, even having the 330xi I would take the Mustang on my hour commute everyday. I still need to get out and drive a Miata, especially in the snow.

If I get my Jeep, we'll do a snow drive
![]() 08/15/2018 at 23:08 |

I admit I’m a little thinking about winter too.
![]() 08/15/2018 at 23:13 |

yeah - your lungs will turn black if you drive the Miata to much with all this smoke...

I got here too late for those nice summers you talk about. After two weeks of sun I’m ready for rain . I’m a fucking Toyota Prius with sunlight.

That last picture is amazing. Too bad you're not in my neck of the woods, I feel like we'd get along pretty well

I just want winter for winter track days.

It is so bad. A recent hire at my company was a wildlands forest firefighter and he’s saying that all of the recently retired guys are getting asked to come in to help

That looks like a nice place to live
![]() 08/15/2018 at 23:23 |

Yes. So much yes.
Pretty sure around here the track day would just get canceled tho

New J eep vs. Beater Miata. We can take bets on Oppo and keep a running total of the parts that break/fall off

It’s very short notice on them, then they could cancel a day before since the weather changed. If you spin off the track (or understeer in my case) you hit a pile of snow instead of concrete wall.

Even in miserable situations I always try to remember that you’ll end up looking back on them fondly. Riding through a torrential downpour on a bike is no fun, but I look back on it and laugh. Breaking down 40 miles from home sucks, but I smile looking back at it. And on and on

My first car was an Austin Healey Sprite. My best memories aren’t of warm summer days with the top down, they are o f morning drives on freshly fallen snow with the sun shining, a warm puff of air coming from the heater, and the puny little motor suddenly putting out enough power to be a drift king.

It’s not allowed to be winter until one of you finds me one of these:
No, not a damn GT. Or an LX. No. An absolute base model 1995 Escort, factory 13" wheels
, 5 speed, manual steering, no air conditioning
. 12
0A or 90A
alternator is a nice bonus, but the 75A
is fine.
Note: under no circumstances will passengers be permitted without plastic seat cover, barf bucket, and arm restraints.

I’m still not quite over last winter, but I do enjoy a nice snow drive.

Maybe one day we’ll have Oppo Nationals in the snow.
![]() 08/16/2018 at 00:16 |

These things came with optional alternator upgrades..?

You understand

So true. That time my friend forgot her key when we hiked 25 miles from my car to hers in the mountains ? I was about to kill her. Now it’s one of my favorite outdoor memories

I love that second photo. Looks like a great road to drive

That's how I felt last year with the Ventura fire. Shit was nuts but at least I like the smell of camp fire baked into my clothing.

As much as I love snow and skiing, I’m loving this perpetual summer thing in Socal now lol. Yeah its a little hot at home right now but I just go down to the beach and it’s like 70 degrees. If salty snowy winters weren’t responsible for the rust on my Miata, I would be happier and enjoy it more. But having perpetually available access to fun canyon roads surely makes up for it. I am kinda jealous though about the things you end up doing with the Miata. I am certainly left wishing I had close enough access to snow like that.

Ayup. Which isn’t fully accurate. They cam with “various alternators” more accurately. Which is to say: “whatever was on the floor at the time.” Most got the 90, because stereo and air conditioning. Some rare examples got the 120 because automatic, four door, wagon. The 75A is fine, just no room for fog lights.

Count the Queen in. I even have the original chains in my trunk.

I love backpacking, but I often describe it as something that I enjoy having done more than I enjoy doing.

Holy shit how much do I have to pay you to ride along
