With the overall lull in political posts, I’ve noticed how much more enjoyable this area has been. Hopefully those who’ve wandered off when all that nonsense took place will find their way back here.

Yeah I agree. The political posts were definitely a bad time. I do enjoy the personal posts though. Makes this feel more like a community getting to know people good or bad parts of life.

Was there a particular glut of political posts that drove people away? The only mass exodus I remember was when all those people (like, half of Oppo) left for Facebook or Hooniverse. Probably not long after Kinja debuted and pissed everybody off. Not unlike the current Kinja, which still pisses everybody off.

I don’t mind the occasional politics post, but they were getting pretty thick there for a while. Oppo can be a nice safe house from the constant drama, but it’s also a generally polite place to voice an opinion.

Oh, wow. I tend to think of Oppo/Jalopnik in terms of years, you’re talking recent stuff. I only recently ventured back to the FP after a couple of years and found that people are still just are jerky and contentious as ever. The internet is like driving a car. You would never act like that sitting in a room with someone. I always act here the way I act IRL (for the most part).

Yeah, the FP has decent articles at times, but the comments sections can be a complete shitshow. I tend to avoid those - especially on any article that’s remotely controversial.
I try to do the same - I’m here for a little light entertainment, not to get my rocks off by being insulting/demeaning. As is pretty much everyone here, thankfully...

suits me fine this way...
but i mostly avoided reading the political once i figured out they pretty much always just turned in to same people fighting in the arguments anyway
i dont have enough free time to argue with people on the interwebs.,... not seriously anyway
(sides we all know my opinion is the only correct one and anyone who dis agrees is wrong and not worth replying to:p)

Cigar Lounge was a direct spinoff of Oppo back when NSFW content was no longer allowed. It has become a place for people to post most anything that wouldn’t be appropriate for Oppo, but even then, there’s very little NSFW stuff there. I guess we can think about it as NSFO(pop). I’m not sure who mods it, but anybody can get posting privileges there.

Iv e noticed a sizable dip in posts, it seems like we recently lost a bunch of people and gained a few new ones.(within maybe 2 months) Be side the mods laying down the law, what did I miss?
