The faster you go, the better brakes and tires you need, buddy.

Altho he was being an idiot, I’d say the F-150 driver handling things pretty well.

What a fool. If he had better skills, he wouldn’t be in this situation, but, if he did wind up in this situation, he could have exploited that gap between the C63 AMG and the Camry in the left lane and gotten over to the shoulder.

I always have t remember this when I’m driving t he ISF. Just because I have six piston Brem bos, doesn’t mean the people behind me do too . I usually try to move over the towards the shoulder if possible.

“ Chevy Truck rear rents a McLaren 720S in Thailand”
I don’t need to hear about any rear renting in Thailand.
![]() 08/15/2018 at 16:54 |

I thought that’s the only reason to go to Thailand. To rent stuff.

+10 points for a good evasive maneuver
.
-100000 points for driving too fast on a public road.

Yeah, similar occurrence to me recently “oh yeah, the Malibu behind me doesn’t have PCCB’s...”

I might like to hear more.......

Motorcycle riders say always look where you want to go? Well when you're in a car always look AHEAD of you to avoid shit like that.

C’mon now. Even the sportiest rear renting you could imagine.

With the brakes on my Mini I have to constantly remind myself that they guy behind me likely requires 50% more space to stop than I do.

Funny, I’m usually going “oh yeah, the guy behind me does have PCCB. Poor bastard.”

Because...?

Road course + PCCB = hope you like $8000 brake jobs twice a year.
There’s a reason AP and Brembo offer PCCB->Steel kits.

Nah. Try $20k+ for a set of factory ceramic rotors.
My 997 has never been tracked, and I w on’t be tracking it. If I was going to buy one for track duty, I would have bought an arctic silver, low option car with a salvage title and not the optioned out and pristine car that I have. I have plenty of windy backroads on which to enjoy it.
The pads need to be replaced soon, but there is zero wear on the rotors. Street driven PCCB’s last forever.

Oh, I’m assuming if they’re insane enough to track PCCBs, they know how to get the parts slightly cheaper. Since it’s really more like “oh, you went to a track day at Mid-Ohio ? Yeah. They’re done.”
My take is, these cars were built to be driven. It is complete idiocy, the people who insist that track use damages or devalues a car. You show me a track car, I will more often than not, show you a car in VASTLY better condition than the ‘never tracked, never driven wet’ one. Because when you go to the track even halfway seriously, everything gets checked. Brake lines slightly questionable? You’re not racing today. Tire tread iffy? Forget it. Suspension bushing worn? Make an appointment for Monday. Leaking coolant? Get it out of the paddock now . (Even LeMons has extremely strict rules regarding tires, brakes, safety equipment and leakage. )
Yes, some parts get worn more quickly. And these parts are replaced before they become a problem. Because they must be if you want to go back out on the track. About the only thing you can get away with is paint damage. And the people who claim it’s worse for the engine... yeah, no, that’s not how engines work. (If someone overrevs it, that’s an interior problem.)
Ironically, one of the reasons I actually view the centerlocks on my 997.2 GTS as a net positive is because of the track use maintenance schedule. Hub replacement is required every 4700 track miles. If you’re running lugs, you should be doing studs and lugs something like every 200 track miles at most , and hubs a lot sooner than 4700 miles.
Plus, seriously, even the steel rotors are batshit when you say “NO I DON’T WANT THE LIFE OF MY ROTORS REDUCED WITH A COBALT BIT.”

I don’t think track use damages or devalues it. I’m just afraid of balling my car up.
Also, you have a 9A1 motor . Having an M97 I’m a bit more paranoid.
![]() 08/15/2018 at 22:44 |

Sadly, there’s a LOT of people who take that stance. It drives me so insane. Almost as insane as the prospect of torquing centerlocks. Seriously Porsche, WHAT THE FUCK. You assholes had BETTER be hiding hardened steel parts I can use an impact gun on somewhere.
And yeah, I’d... definitely not be doing it with an M97. Oh hell no. I’ve got about 40k miles to learn the 9A1 and I expect I’ll need every one of them. Especially since Porsche DI is extremely low pressure (1750psi, I’m used to 2200psi+.) Taking the mechanical redline to 10.5k is easy...ish . Finding another .5 in the CR? That’s gonna be HARD.

Seems like he made a pretty reasonable effort to stop/swerve. And traffic coming to a halt like that is hard to predict on a fast road.
Shake tho
