Yeah, that’s my post on Rennlist; yes I do think my IMS is failing; no my engine didn’t go boom(yet). I’m trying to figure out if I can get away with just replacing the bearing or if once the bearing wears this badly the engine needs a tear down(cause if so, uggghhhhhhhhhhh).

Don’t forget the RMS is a thing on these. It might not be that bad. Although if you’re in there to do the RMS, you might as well redo the IMS too.

Yeah; I think that with it giving way so fast it made me think IMS as I would expect the rms to be a slow failure but; who knows.

Fingers crossed. As someone who wants a 996.2 bad, i want yours to be trouble free

Clearly the solution is to buy a 997.2 GTS instead. They don’t have IMS problems. ;)

I’m amused that the lead image is a 996 Turbo, which does not have IMS issues.

My IMS is fine! My RMS is not; out comes the engine but it should only be out for two weeks depending on timing and parts and so forth.

That’s good, it’s a much easier problem to address!

I’m paranoid about bore scoring...I check my oil level at every startup.
