This coworker KNOWS I’m the one into cars. We found an ND Miata muffler and, while I really have no use for it, I just immediately assumed it was coming home with me. Nope! He yells “ DIBS!” and puts it in his pile of crap to sell . We also found a box of old electronics and he decided that he’s going to take the entire box for himself, whereas every other coworker and myself would usually dig through it together and ask each other if we want anything specific.
Oh, and just to make it more clear that he’s a piece of shit: he regularly convinces customers that we donate everything. While it’s true that we ( the company, not he and I) donate a lot of stuff, he NEVER does. Oh, this armoire was in your family for three generations and you want it to go to a good home? Well, it’s going straight to the dump because you happened to get the laziest asshole we have to come and take it.

Sounds like you need a new partner. Or you go into business for yourself.

If you look hard enough, there is a valid reason to fire anyone. If you can’t find one, they’ve been manufatured before. If he works with multiple people, an anonymous email to the boss man about seeing so and so pilfering cash/jewelery, unbeknownst to the home owners might do the trick, or at the very least might have them crawling up his ass to the point he self terminates.
...but how far do you really want to take it, and would you compromise your integrity to f over someone just because they’re deserving of an effing, albeit not the one you happen to be putting into action?
Your call, I guess. Like anything, how bad ya want it?

I wish I could choose my partner. They’re just randomly assigned at the beginning of the day.

Junk removal. We get to keep what we find, and people throw out ridiculously nice stuff.

You should also pour squid sauce into the cowl of his hood.

That’s a tough call. I’ve gotten tons of Lego, a gumball machine, probably 300 records, some video games, and a super comfy chair, among other little things.

Exactly. Does the company have a written policy about donation vs keeping? Is there maybe some behaviour that could damage the company’s reputation? You could even c heck if this idiot has a social media account where he’s exposing himself or the company to trouble.
Maybe a quiet word to a boss about how someone is acting inappropriately, no names needed, so that they can put out a reminder to the team about what’s acceptable.
And if Mr Grabby is still new, maybe the only thing you can do is wait until he gets tired of all the junk piling up at his place and stops claiming everything he sees. Eventually, the novelty will wear off .
