Does this brake dust look excessive

This is new pads and rotors with 2,000 miles. It looks excessive to me. I’d like to see the pads and see if they have worn a bunch too.

Just paint your wheels that color. Problem solved.

Stock BMW pads make a lot of dust as well (more than what you have) but that is how they are designed to work.

What does google say?

My E46 used to do this with stock pads. Akebonos fixed that issue.

Had wheels in a dark grey once, no point in washing them cause they didn’t get cleaner. So easy :D

Mine look like that after 500 miles, less if I’m having fun.

That’s as much dust as the last set of ferodo ds2500 pads I had. I've since been switching my cars over to the Portfiel R4S pads and they have much less dust. At 3000 miles the rims just look a bit dusty.

H ere’s my solution. I don't let it bother me.

This is a 2008 outback 2.5i, I don’t know where the parts came from, I’m just trying to give my co-worker a heads up if there is something wrong with her car.

She needs to do the rear brakes much worse than worrying about the fronts, it just looked unusual to me. I actually wash my car frequently so dust never really gathers.

This is the correct answer.

Yeah, those OE Pagid pads dust like none other. Ton of initial bite though, albeit too much IMO.

I believe Akebono makes the OEM pads for Subaru.

My guess is there are the cheapest ones from auto zone.

Every German car I’ve own had my front wheels looking  like that within 500 miles, maybe Subaru is using their pads now?

Switch pads or get use to cleaning them. A good wheel cleaner and soft wheel brush works wonders.

Is she a brake rider? Does she coast or is she constantly on and off the brakes?

She drives normally and this is a manual car so less opportunity to ride the brakes.

To be fair while that seems excessive, you’ll always get some excess from ‘bedding in’, but after 2,000 miles a lot of build up is to be expected and this seems about right.

There are many things you ca n do to minimise brake dust build up, change to a different brand of brake pad, use a wheel wax or sealant to reduce build up or a corrosion inhibitor to reduce the oxidation on the brakes and so reducing the amount is expelled onto the wheel surface.

Two words, Black plastidip...  but seriously, most of my cars do similar.  The black wheels help a lot, gunmetal works well too.

Oh if it’s not yours then I would assume the owner rides the  brakes down hill and has a hilly commute.
