....what this station wagon is?

Kinja'd!!!

And why the ladies are putting their suitcases on tip when there’s plenty of room inside?

1960 Pontiac, looks ambulance-based.  Might have been used as like a 12 passenger airport car (this was before mainstream passenger vans).

1960 Pontiac.

But I think the roofline is custom conversion by an ambulance maker.

Or the patient. Which always seemed kind of creepy when the ambulance and the hearse were based on the same vehicle.

‘60 Pontiac, conversion by Superior. Not a dedicated hearse/etc. because it has a roof rack, so actually ordered as an airport limo, most likely.

Neat. Hence the Superior ambulance. I remember seeing those on cop shows as a kid, and I always thought Superior was the name of the ambulance service. There IS a Superior Ambulance Service, so perhaps that’s where it took its name?

Thanks!

It looks like most of the ‘60 Superior conversions for ambulance use had an extra “hat”:

Kinja'd!!!

Flxible, the bus company, also did ambulance/hearse conversions, but most of the ones I’ve seen were out of Buicks:

Kinja'd!!!

Superior also did work with Cadillacs:

Right. RamblinRover posted a higher res version, and I have updated the post with it.

You’ll also notice that Superior (and Flxible to a lesser extent) were building their own frames for the doors to better match their rooflines, and in some cases making longer doors when the vehicle was lengthened.

Example of both (Flxible):

Compare:

Example of neither - I think (also Flxible) :

Hmm, looks like they moved it since I was there, used to be out back in the air park:

Guess with the new covered pavilion they changed their priorities regarding where to display things. I am a bit surprised that they’d have a non-B oeing watching over the entrance.
