Co-worker of mine just got yelled at for smoking WHILE GRILLING THE WHOLE COMPANY LUNCH...
It was burgers, not noodles, and outdoors, not indoors.
But he doesn’t understand what HE did was wrong, instead focuses on being threatend with termination, and all the things he can do to hurt the company when he leaves.
What the fuck is wrong with people? I almost want to say it to his face that he’s an idiot and was in the wrong , but I almost rather he get fired for both smoking while cooking, smoking in an un-authorized area at work, and not during established smoke break times.
Oh, and being an asshole.
I wouldn’t have eaten what he was cooking if I had known.

Sounds like things escalated a bit needlessly there, on all sides, if I’m honest. Asking him not to would have been enough, I’d hope. Threatening to fire him for smoking outdoors seems a bit much, especially if the bbq was coal fired, being carcinogenic and such.... Unless he got all belligerent when asked, of course.
In poor taste, and unacceptable, especially to those who find cigarettes disgusting (here here) but jumping right to termination seems a bit much.
He didn’t even have to wait to be fired if he wanted retribution, fwiw, he just could have burned everything.

Nah. If the company has both designated smoke breaks and smoking areas and he ignored both of those, on top of smoking while cooking other people’s food, that’s three strikes right there.

Addicts gonna addict. If he were out there shooting smack, they’d have to give him paid time off. Lol

Seems a bit hypocritical to yell at a guy for smoking while working a grill. The smoke that comes off a grill, while smelling much better, is pretty much as bad as cigarette smoke.
Unless he was blowing the smoke onto the food, I don’t see what kind of impact it would have had either. Heat rises, so its not like his smoke could have “settled” onto the food.

The cook at the M&M
bar in Butte MT smoked cigarettes
and drank Mountain Dew 24/7. No one ever gave a shit and the food was really good.

would you want to be served food after he dropped ashes on it?

Tha t’ s a different matter entirely and not stated in the story. I wouldn’t like it if he put the cigarette out on my burger , but no one said he did that either.
