Very sad. That’s my photo. I’ve seen her many times. AvWeb has video of the crash. Not sure what happened. It could have been much, much worse.

I’d love to see that. What I found interesting about the Lanc is that, for its size, it’s pretty cramped in the cockpit.

A guy from my neighborhood won the V ictoria Cross for climbing through the burning tail turret tunnel in a attempt to save the tail gunner. He died in his attempt, but the plane split up in the air and the tail gunner survived. His name was Andrew Mynarski, it’s one of the more famous Lancaster stories. I also had a great uncle who serviced the Canadian lancs in England during the war.
