No, not the kind my local PCA sponsors.
So mething more like this.
Are there amateur instructed opportunities similar to the HPDE events at road courses? I know there are schools, but they are pricey and I’m not that committed. I’m in Atlanta and would prefer something nearby.

Oh hey, this looks like one for me. I’m a hobby rallyist turned professional co-driver. So to start, since stage rallies are run on actual public
roads and outside of the actual events those roads are busy being used as roads there aren’t regular HPDE-style events for rally. The closest thing you’ll find is biting the bullet and going to a rally school (Dirtfish in Washington, Rally Ready in Texas, Team O’Neil in New Hampshire, or The FIRM in Florida) or going to a rallycross and finding someone willing to ride with you and give you tips. Unfortunately the closest proper rallies to Atlanta are the Tazewell rallysprint in Tennessee, Sandblast Rally in South Carolina, and the FIRM rallysprint in Florida.

SCCA rallycross is your amateur entry point. Beyond that you move into rallysprints or full stage rally, both of which require a fully caged and prepped car.

Yeah. I should have mentioned that I'm looking to avoid wheel to wheel type competition. I don't generally trust my fellow amateurs.

Thanks for the reply. That's pretty much what my Google searches told me. I spent my formative years fishtailing down the dirt back roads of South Georgia and thought rallying might be interesting to try.

SCCA rallycross isn’t wheel to wheel. It’s basically autocross but in dirt instead of pavement.
I'm totally with you on not trusting competitors wheel to wheel. I've settled into being comfortable being on course with other people but won't do it when competing with them.

Here’s a clip I found from an SCCA Rallycross event held in Georgia, so you can get an idea what it’s like
Plus an onboard from a Middle Georgia Region event

Roofs are usually good on dirt roads

Ok, that sounds interesting. I'm really interested in something that doesn't involve passing - at least not at first. My one track day involved me getting passed a lot which took a lot of the fun out of it.

Yessssss. That's it. Thanks, I'll look into it.

Haha when you track a Miata regularly, getting passed by other faster vehicles is a common occurrence that I certainly have gotten used to. It just makes those opportunities where you finally get to pass someone else even more special.

Theres also the option of hillclimbing. One ca r at a time on a twisty tar section of road. And I’m thinking t he same was as Dusty-too bad you ain’t in New England.

I believe there’s a SCCA region in Georgia that hosts rallycrosses and I know my region, South Carolina Region, hosts several rallycrosses a year. Our next one is on August 26th provided there’s no rain a few days before the event! Let me know if you’re interested and I can give you addition links to our active FB group!

At my first trackday I only got passed. With only 115 hp I was never able to catch anyone. I did have fun harassing the BRZs through the corners though.

My stock NA 944 is appallingly slow at a track like Road Atlanta. I remember getting passed by Miatas. A lot of that was probably the fault of the idiot behind the wheel.
