She handled the 45 mile drive home like a champ . I ran her through the touch-free car wash just to get the initial grime off and she celebrated by dying on me in the car wash bay. Haha. Started right back up, though. Just idles a little slow and lopey at times. I’m hoping some fresh gas and some driving will help. This car has done a LOT of sitting over its 28 years of life. The spark plugs and wires are pretty new.

Needs coolant (it’s a little low but doesn’t run hot at all), some new speakers (I have the radio turned all the way up and still can barely hear it), tint, and a good detail.

I love the remote tape deck and the big ass E-brake handle in these.

If it’s got aftermarket speakers installed, make sure they’re not wired up backwards, or otherwise badly installed, before you replace them. I just went through this with the five-speed ZJ. The TL/DR on this is you have to do things properly for them to work properly.

The PO told me he had put in a set of used Alpines he picked up from a friend, but it turned out after he installed them they “were blown”. There was fairly clear sound, but it seemed like it was only coming from the passenger side, and it wasn’t very loud, although I could feel the driver’s door speaker was doing something, vibrations through the door panel and whatnot.   So when I happened upon a ZJ in a wrecking yard with the premium audio package, I grabbed the speakers. When I installed them, I discovered they were in fact actually blown, fortunately it was 50% off weekend so I was only out $10. But it was still worth it, because in the process of putting them in, I had discovered the driver’s side rear Alpine had been installed so it had rattled loose, dropped, and shorted against the door so it wasn’t m aking any noise, and the driver’s door Alpune had the wires hacked off and reversed, meaning that while in would generate sound on its own, the reversed polarity results in sound waves that are reversed from the other speakers, effectively cancelling them out. After correcting the wiring and rotating the one speaker 180° (so if it didn't wiggle loose again it wouldn't drop shortable parts onto metal), the whole system works great.

Fresh gas and maybe some fuel system cleaner should help.

Now that I have done some more research, I think the factory amplifier is bad. That would explain the low stereo volume but otherwise okay sound quality.
