Just saw this piece of trim fly off a PT Cruiser at the car wash.

Kinja'd!!!

Those blow-dryers are pretty serious.

Meh, anyone who runs their car through an automatic wash AND drives a PT cruiser deserves way worse.

There is one automatic car wash I trus t and even for that one I still prep my vehicle before it goes in.

I remove the antenna, push in my side view mirrors and tape down the soft rubber trim located at the rear of my roof rails with painters tape.

Hey now, I am a fan of touchless car washes. I am a bigger fan of handwashing my cars but, shared driveway.

I have a shared driveway too.  I would never do an automatic wash. But I do spray it down at the coin op.

The coin op never seems to get it as clean as the automatic. Every once in a while I will go hand wash my car at midnight-ish at the coin op .

Worth it, that strip is cheap but requires rear g lass removal to install, which isn’t cheap.

It only takes a 10 seconds to apply the tape, worth the piece of mind.

However, I’ve recently installed a roof rack with a big basket in the bed, which means I can’t go through any carwash anymore.

Since I currently develop the soaps fr automatic ar washes, it is always amazing at how shit people are at going through them. They’ll demand we DONT bag up their wiper but then bitch when the spinning brushes rip it off. They’ll ignore the prompts and lights telling them not to go forward, smash into the car in front, then back up and smash the car behind. More than one person has gone in with severe body damage and then complained that the high powered fans at the end blew off exposed and torn up body panels. Oh and my personal favorite is the cars with autozone decals and chrome and stick on bits that all get destroyed and the owners bitch about how “special” it made their car.

Two new full s ervice car washes opened here recently, I see cars with the bag on the wiper all the time now. I am not 100% sure who sucks, the car wash or the car owners. Either way it makes me smile.

Everytime I see one of those “ dumb driver smashes 17 cars in the car wash” videos I wonder how many of the people try to blame it on the car wash. Like there was something the car wash attendant could have done to prepare them for sitting in their doing nothing until the car wash was done.

When I bought my ‘80s Town Car, it was explained to me that about 8-10 years earlier, the turn signal lenses had fallen off in a car wash, and the previous owner had only managed to recover one and duct tape it back on.

The taped on one then flew off on I95 somewhere in Georgia, and the new aftermarket replacements I purchased were quite a bit cheaper looking, no floating Lincoln emblems etched into the inside. But, it would have been hard to glue it back on properly anyway, and find an identical replacement for the other side.

I have found a similar thing. I usually do a half-assed pre-wash in a coin op, then run it through a decent automatic... They just do a better job if you aren’t using a bunch of car care products on top of it.

Ya, that’s usually what I do  when it’s really dirty. If it's just normal dirty the automatic I go to does a pretty good job.

I used to daily a PT Cruiser. That blow-dryer is probably not serious at all...
