I guess it's better than a decal on the paint

Seriously though, what type of person lets a dealer put this big of a sticker and a license plate frame on their car.

Kinja'd!!!

T hat size of a sticker I would need some sponsorship money.

It’s what I always say when I clean a car and I ask if they want the large window sticker removed. They usually say, ‘I don’ t know, it still goes to them for servicing, what would they say’, to which I reply. ‘It’s your car, and your advertising for them, are they paying you anything for advertising, giving you a discount on servicing, etc...?’.

To which I always get, ‘ye’, your right, take it off’.

Idk. We've demanded any dealer advertising be removed before delivery on every new car purchase my family ever made. Except my grandmother, who felt they would give her better service if they knew she bought it there.

Years ago I bought a Ram 1500 at a dealer and had them take the decal off when I bought it. I to ok it in for an oil change and they put one on the tailgate while  it was getting serviced. I was annoyed when I first saw it , I did however admire their craftiness.

I think you can receive some benefits for keeping the decal or plate frame, such as free car washes.

License plate covers are fine I dont make an issue out of it I just remove it when I get home and trash them. But that sticker is just egregious! It’s a sure deal breaker

Exactly, if the dealer was like free oil changes if you leave the sticker on  and the car was under warranty I would be down. Outside of that, not so much.

That’s something I’m glad never caught on in my area. When Carmax came to town, they have and still try to brand their vehicles with decals on body, but they usually don’t stay on long before the owner removes them.

License plate decals I can live with, but nothing on the body or glass.

Same, license plate frame cool, I’ll get around to taking it off and throwing it away.

Decals, not so much.

Ya, that’s was I saying to Svend, free oil changes and I’ll keep the  stupid sticker. The car wash would only work if it was touchless.

I’ve never seen a sticker like this in the US (except on dealer loaners) , but they seem surprisingly common in the UK. Here, dealers prefer ugly badges/stickers on the paint, and of course the license plate frame, which is no problem since it is easy to remove (though very few people do) .

You know, that plate frame is probably not even legal. I know at least around where I am ( NJ) if the plate frame blocks the name of the state they aren't legal, and you can get a ticket for obstructed view.

It’s pretty obnoxious, and I’d tell them not to put it on, but on glass, it’s probably not too hard to get off. Worth it if you are saving a few hundred bucks vs. another dealer (though it would definitely lower my opinion of the dealer, especially if they wouldn’t agree not to put it on) .

I’m glad I’m not the only one who is irritated by that shit. I also don’t get people that leave the dealer frame on. But, having said that, I left the paper plates on my e-Golfs after I bought them because I was really happy with the deal. But, I only left them on the front. And it was a slight dig at my local VW dealers since the dealer I bought them from is not close. So not only was I advertising for them, but I was advertising (in my mind) how much the local ones suck.

I have wondered about that. I would think most states have a law similar to that, if a cop wanted to be an asshole they could probably just write  tickets for that all day.

That's a pretty good reason to leave them on.

I had to take my Focus to a different dealer than where I bought it for something and they put their frames on my plates. They even changed the screw s out to a security screws.

They came off after I had to put the plates on. I don’t like any dealer that much.

Local FCA dealer here regularly puts full-width banners on our work fleet vehicles, which is pretty annoying considering A: when we buy through fleet sales they don’t actually get purchased from the dealer, it’s just the convenient drop-off point within FCA’s network for us to pick them up at, and B: federal fleet policy prohibits displaying dealer emblems so we have to pull them all right back off immediately.

That was nice of them. The free security screws I mean.

In that case you guys should give them a bill for the time you guys spent taking off the decals. Also, also everyone that works at your company should make $10,000 an hour.

It would be pretty  interesting to see how that one plays out. Being government I’m not exactly sure how we’d make that happen, but I'm sure finance could figure it out.

When I bought my TDI they tossed frames on it and I was like whatever. I took it in for the included service at a closer dealership who paid me 10 to put their frames on it, again whatever. Then dieselgate happened and I didn’t care enough to take those off.

Did you get it fixed or turn it in?

Turned it in, mine was the previous generation without the DEF tank so no real fix and the cash offer was totally worth it. After I finished with the turn in part one of the sales guys took the plates off for me and asked me if I wanted to test drive anything, I declined.

The payout was reasonably close to the cost of the car new.
