Kinja'd!!!

Ok so, this morning I walked out to my car to see a dick drawn in the dirt on my hood. Honestly, I’m not pissed about the dick, it’s objectively funny to a child-mind like mine. But FUCK that person. I live at an apartment complex and sometimes work takes up too much of my time to keep my car clean. It’s currently covered in some weird shit caused by dragon-flies repeatedly bouncing of it (mating?), and if I didn’t luckily have a clear film on the hood that could have scratched paint! Who the hell does that?

Look, I’m not your average parsha owner. I’m gonna run this car ragged. I’m gonna drive rain or shine, all through the winter, and it won’t be garaged obviously. Hell, I went off-roading in the Oppo Half-Massed Rally on Saturday (more on that later)! But the important part is that I am the one doing these things. I will get it dirty, I will get rock chips and cone marks on it, and I will take it places that MAYBEEEE I shouldn’t go. But it still pisses me the hell off that someone else would be thoughtless enough, heartless enough, and possibly jealous enough to do this shit. I’ve lost some trust in parking my car where I freaking live. I’m nervous this could escalate, or I won’t be lucky enough for it to only be on the clear film. Fuck that person.

UGH. Well thanks for listening.

That sucks but Dust Dick better than Spray Paint better than getting Keyed. I have had the latter 2 happen to people I know with nice cars. Some people are just assholes, can’t help it except hoping they get caught and punished.

Yeah I agree and right now its really more a loss of trust feeling. But I live next to a Navy Base so if something worse happens I’m hoping I can get video proof.

As a fellow participant in the Oppo Rally, I can confirm that your car did some off-roading on Saturday :-)

It sucks when other people don’t respect your cars, but sadly it happens. Sometimes intentionally like your situation, sometimes by negligence. A few months ago, my car was parked on the street and I came back to a note because someone couldn’t parallel park their minivan without going 5 feet across the painted line and hitting my Fiat. It sucks, but that’s the reality of driving our cars and not just keeping them in the garage 365 days a year. It might not be a popular opinion on this automotive website, but occasionally I have to remind myself that “hey, it’s just a car.” When we take something that we’ve invested a lot of time, energy, and money into and put it out on the street, sometimes shit happens. Hopefully your car wasn’t scratched, but if it was, you can still enjoy driving it just as much.

Here’s a pic of the damage done to the Fiat:

I love my Jag more than life. It’s a car worth $2,000 on a really good day. I spend multiples of that every year keeping it running.

None of that has prevented from me getting keyed so many times that I’ve just stopped caring. People are dicks.

Ouch, that’s sad about the accident but you have a great outlook on it. I really like to live by the “it’s just a car” mantra, and I truly believe it. But again, I feel like that applies to accidents. Intended damage is just awful.

And yes, I was certainly planning to reference you as my proof of off-roading shenanigans. I’m sure the 500 didn’t like that road much more than the cayman haha

That’s terrible! But I would kill to love my car like that. I think you’re lucky in that aspect.

I may have been at a slight advantage on that road due to my shorter wheelbase (is it shorter? It had to be. Now I have to go look it up).

I was able to get the Fiat repaired and her insurance paid for it, so it's not a huge deal although it'll show up on a carfax someday. Oh well.

“It’s just a Car” is the montra that has propelled my automotive hobby. Do I love my cars? Absolutely. But I’m also not going to Baby them or get all sad because they get scratched, or dented. Especially if those scares come from having fun with it, or using it normally.

This might sound corny, but whether it’s cars or anything else, it’s a bad idea to put too much importance on material possessions.

It’s like when you get a nice new pair of sneakers and you try really hard not to scuff them. But eventually it happens, and then you can stop worrying about it.

It’s also got really short front and rear overhangs. Some more ground clearance, and a Fiat 500 wouldn't be so bad for off-roading.

People suck, but a Cayman at an apartment complex is like a bright light for retarded moths. People will always associate fancy brands with the 1%, and it gets the wrong kind of attention. Sorry to hear about it, but it could have been much worse

Just install a dash camera, and wire it to a backup battery like you would charge your phone with, that way it can stay on all of the time.

Was definitely considering this today. We'll see.
