But damn, if we had a place like this I’d like to guard it away from strangers too.
AiM made a post a few days ago about the cars an enthusiast should drive. Well, this is a road an enthusiast should drive on. Even in my punny europoopbox it felt magical, and the speed limit is almost always 55mph. It might sound like little, but for a winding road up a mountain like this one, I find it appropriate.
It’s also just one of many ways to go up the hill.

Wish I had time while I was in Barcelona to head up into the hills! Had to choose between spending time in England or Spain for the driving portion of my trip. Figured driving on the wrong side of the road was a more unique experience. Next time though, I want to drive some European mountains!

Beware, they’re really bad drivers.

LOL....yes. The best and most accurate description I ever heard was that in the UK, people flash their lights to say “please go ahead!” and 20 miles away in France, they flash their lights to say “get out of my way!”

Cant be worse than LA lol. I enjoy driving in Europe, people at least follow some sort of rules most of the time. Italian drivers were definitely more nuts than elsewhere but they seemed to know what they were doing at least.

Oh the french are a special kind of stupid. Only lane hoggers I’ve seen in europe.
But don’t get me started with the swiss

When I lived in the frontier of Andalusia (Morón de la Frontera) back in the olden days I remember the drivers being both courteous and crazy. When you were on a narrow road and wanted to pass a leading car would help you out using their turn signals to let you know when it was clear or if you were about to kill yourself . The presence of the police was also communicated. If you happen to be in Sevilla then the lane lines were the mildest of suggestions and if you happen to have 6 cars in 4 lanes then ¯\_()_/¯ .

Why not do both in The Lake District?

I talked with some protesters when I was there last fall, they’re not interested in keeping strangers out. They are worried about the Disneylanding of their culture, which has been happening in Barcelona for a while, but they were all pretty pro letting refugees in and such. Long history between Catalans and Madrid.

Those buildings look old. They should tear them down and replace them with modern steel and glass buildings.
And those mountains? They should auction off
mining rights to them.

Took the train up there last fall, spectacular view. Wish we had access to a little roadster!

I was thinking about taking the train, parking in very restrictive up there. But it was Monday and late, so we had no problem. We also caught the least aggressive weather. it was a good call.

Obviously, do you know how many Chinese billionaires want to have Montserrat rock lining their bathrooms? We must feed the market!

I found it to be the opposite to be quite honest. The worst drivers in Spain by far are here. They don’t signal, they’re entitled, and they tailgate you for no reason! They do work better in the highways,

It’s a beef between them and Madrid. Thus far all arguments I’ve heard of from both sides are arrogant and shortsighted, but I admit I’ve only heard the more vocal groups from both sides (and the young people, the ones that didn’t suffer from any tangible oppression).
In the end I think they should’ve gotten their referendum, but I’m glad Puigdemont is out of office. If they want to become independent it’s fine, as long as they immediately join the EU, same is true of the Basque .

Well, Madrid was all set to be ruled by fascists for 35 years until the Basques took care of business, so...
When I was your age I was hanging out with the homeless of Tijuana and Puerto Peñasco, helping them build communities on land they’d been squatting on, so our POVs might differ significantly as to who is right and wrong in certain situations.
As far as the EU goes, my guess is France wouldn’t look too kindly on an independent Basque nation. Same goes for the various ethnic enclaves throughout Europe. My uncles in Calabria still speak Albanian despite my family having lived in Italy for 500 years. Europe gonna Europe.

My POV as a Spanish “Citizen” is that they are doing it to screw over the poor people in the south. But I’ve evolved in my thought and I realized that as a Mexican National (which is what I am in truth, no matter what my passport says ) I don’t really have a say in what is right or wrong here . I think many things about it, but in the end if they become independent it’s fine by me! My government has an official “keep the nation” posture, but I disagree with it. I think they should be officially neutral.
As for Geopolitics, France shouldn’t be using Spain as a moral compass (for instance, look at what happened after the referendum) I think all of these causes should be analyzed. As long as they become a part of the EU, there isn’t a real issue.
As for why our POVs differ. Well, it’s pretty clear you do not feel the same way about shit as I do, and that might stem from where we’ve been and how we’ve lived.
But that doesn’t disqualify my opinion on stuff. Even if I have a fancy car and even if I live in “El Poniente” I can still think and say stuff about my country. A few posts ago you made an assertion that I should be disqualified for being like that, I find that very disrespectful and arrogant. I was going to address it then but I was too tired.
I think squatters needing housing in lands they don’t have a right to be is not the biggest issue, I think the biggest issue is that we let those people be in that precarious situation in the first place. The government is so powerful, so rich, and they let this happen because they’re arrogant and selfish.
I could go into a lot more detail about Mexican land rights, squatters, and why they should be helped out beyond having their homes built in lands they don’t own.

I’ve never driven in Italy, but it’s probably for the better.
“ The Spanish are very bad drivers ” says the Mexican one, lol.

All valid points. Sorry for being an asshole. Happens sometimes.
