I found two buried junction boxes in this knee wall. One of which was just a dead end. Also found a random BX whip with tape on the end. Both were hot.

Kinja'd!!!

I also found this hot mess in the basement, on the same circuit.

Kinja'd!!!

Oye.

Household electrical wiring is nearly idiot  proof. Or so it seems - because there sure are a lot of idiots doing it.

Oh, grief, plaster and lath walls. Does the house also have knob and tube wiring? That sort of stuff tends to yield “gifts” left behind for future generations.

It's self-correcting, though. The really bad ones zap themselves into unplanned retirement.

I remember helping my dad in the late 80's replace bare wiring in part of our house. I also saw it in getting removed from a 150 year old ranch house. It was pretty easy to do my wiring since you could walk between the walls.

There is a bit of knob and tube left. It's on the list, for sure. That stuff needs to go.

I'm just glad it isn't steel lathe. That shit was made by the devil himself!

Living in what basically amounts to a series of Faraday cages does wonders for your wifi strength...

Yep. The cielings on the first floor were redone at some point. Those are steal lathe. I have two separate routers. One for upstairs, and one for down.

Luckily I don't have to tear any of those out.

I dug into the archives for a few pics from a few things I found not long after moving into my house in 2011. The wiring original to the house is fine, but anything that had been changed looked like this (once untaped). Shame the pic is out of focus, but in the foreground is a mass of wires just hooked together in a wad; not twisted. In all  the junctions for the lights and outlets in the basement there was not a wire nut to be found (the red is one I put to make a light work temporarily)

Kinja'd!!!

This feed for the switch was just barely wrapped around the hot for the outlet. I think it was slightly taped.

That is very bad. That reminds me I have to call the electrician. Some of our rooms seem to not be on breakers.

That looks mild.

1. When we tore into our house we found new wiring from the basement to the 1st level. The 2nd level however was still Knob and Tube wiring, which they had tied the new wiring into.

2. Junction boxes randomly in the walls on 1st level, most of which just had the wires twisted together, no tape, no nuts.

3. The whole 1st level + garage + basement on the same circuit.

There was a place in my basement cei ling where a pipe took 3 left turns instea d of a right, usually I can rationalize why someone does something, got nothing for the 3 lefts.

UGH!!! I’ve had a couple cheap campers. The build quality is unbelievable garbage.

I want to build my own camper out of an aluminum cargo trailer.
