That braking system in essence is still in use in trains and highway tractor-trailer units.
I just spent a very pleasant hour leading about the implementation of brakes on trains. Mechanical systems are pretty darn cool.

We are getting some folks making some neat drone videos with engines running at speed too - was watching one of the 4449 make the run up the Columbia River Gorge earlier this year a couple days ago. It’s pretty cool a few big steam lived long enough to be captured by our new amazing camera technology.

you bet - this one is neat because you can see the pretty dramatic change between the western (wet/green) side of the state and eastern (arid) side of the state as the train makes it’s way up the gorge.
