Some funky sound card - traded an old Corsair case for it.
32gb of matched memory for the HP workstation/Hackintosh - $50
Combined with the new video card and hopefully soon a bigger power supply (so I don’t have to run an aux power supply to drive the video card) this computer may be finished, just in time to replace it...

Sound Blaster! Those fellows were the pioneers in the computer audio game. Kids these days have no idea what it was like back then.

I’m still bitter that Creative Labs killed Aureal (and then bought the corpse to make sure no one else could resurrect it). Jokes on them though, expansion sound cards might not have gone obsolete had there still been innovation in the space.

So true. I remember the tinny beeps and buzzes out of the PC speaker. Then came SB (after AdLib) - ISA card, with all sorts of physical jumpers to set (and corresponding settings to memorize), avoiding conflicts with other hardware devices. Setting each game so it could see the SB at the right address and IRQ. And then the SB with different CD-ROM interfaces so you could hook it up to match the proprietary interface on the particular drive you purchased. No, I never want to go back to those days, especially since the basic on-board stuff these days is probably much more capable than a fancy SB back in the day.
Now, do I use this card in my system or shuffle it along. I use an M-Audio card for serious audio work, so other than gaming, which I don’t do much of (more simulation than gaming), I don’t know what it could really add to my experience.

Onboard sound built into modern motherboards can do 32/192 and some can actually drive larger headphones. Depending on what you are replacing this computer with or the next project is. Sell it if you can and get an externally powered USB digital interface for your audio work. You’ll be surprised how much better sound you get.
