someone compliments your bike
getting a little older but looks like you still got it girl :p
(granted... like any oppo toy.. the only things you reliably attract are middle aged men and little boys.. but still.. it is nice when it happens... even if you cant get rid of the guy for half an hour after as he really really wants to talk bikes)
anyhoo.. me job for today is to fix me spare bike.. if i can
tire is not a problem.. but the fork has seized.. same for the rear mech... wanna get it ridea ble at least..
once thats done i’ll start thinking about what to do with me other spare

Nice one.
It’s one of the reasons I do cars.
It’s nice to be appreciated.

Sweet man. I bought an XCAL 7 in April. Maybe we chatted bikes when I got it.

we did :)
i member :p
i said the frame and brakes on a 7 are identical to a 9 so your just one small upgrade away from having a 9 once the drivetrain wears out

Good little hardtails those Xcaliber frames. As for the Spez...go full rigid...they are goodly fun.
I too have a few frames on the wall.
The project bike is a rigid 26" steel framed MTB from the 80s with drum brakes from a scooter...
The other forthcoming project is an MTB park in which to ride it...

First rule of riding in the water and mud is to WASH YOUR BIKE as soon as you are done. That helps keep the parts from locking up due to dirt and corrosion. Be careful if you use a power washer. It’s easy to drive grit into the bearings and pivot points. It’s really easy to get grit and gunk into the cable housings which will promptly rust solid.

hmm.. full rigid on the spez aint a bad idea (but i’ll get it rideable first)
plan for the frame is frankenbike... wanna fit a cannondale leftie, deep dish carbon wheels(preferably not matching) and a ten speed shimano xt mech set
(way back when it was a whole bike it had the upside down motorbike style forks that went all the way up to the handlebars.... broke my knee on those fuckers in a sharp turn.... design flaw)

i know i know... the spez got put away dirty coz it hit that point in its life where all the parts break.. so i bought a new one... havent had a chance to do anything with it since
shouldnt be too hard to get it rideable again tho.. at least as a spare... will need a new cassette in the rear if i plan to ride it seriously

Not a lot of mountain bikers in my office, so when I wheel it in (like today) I always get comments. It’s a 2014
Trek Fuel e
x5, with some upgraded components as the mediocre stock stuff breaks/wears out. Looks like yours shares a number of components with mine?
I’m hoping to leave work an hour early to get out for a ride.
Mountain bike: meet Generic Office Decor
Cheers!

nice bike :D
sharing the crankset, gearing and shifters for sure
i think your front fork might have a little more travel mine (mines a 100mm yours looks like a 120mm.. but i could just be seeing things)

Is the chain skipping or are you having other problems?
![]() 07/20/2018 at 10:47 |

not skipping yet... (or at least... wasnt when i put it away 3 years ago).. just plenty worn
will find out how bad exactly once i get the gunk off and the tires inflated and take her for a spin

Check the chain first. If the wear is excessive, you might need a new cassette, but if you need a new cassette, you definitely need a new chain and may need to replace one or more of your chainrings.

Quit hanging those old frames on the wall! Get out and ride them!

One day I will get either a HeadShok or a Leftie for my Super-V.

Opportunity to ride them is the limiting factor at the moment. Plus the fact I already have five rideable bikes...three of which are barely ridden these days.

I understand that. My bikes don’t see much use these days. Makes me sad.
