through its paces at the Farnborough International Air Show 2018. The LM-100J is the civilian cargo version of the C-130J Super Hercules tactical airlifter, both descendants of the venerable C-130 which has been flying since 1954. This is impressive stuff but, as Johnston said after

The whole flight is remarkable, but the loop starts at 6:54.

Makes you wonder what could be done with jet liners of similar size.

Anything with wings and enough altitude.

You could probably loop just about anything with enough speed and altitude. But only if the wings are designed not to snap off.

In that case Boeing needs to quit being a bunch ‘a bitches.

I’ll bet you could loop that 787 if you wanted to.

I don’t know. I thought putting those flammable-ass Li-ion batteries in the 787 was pretty edgy.

Who was the guy with the Shrike? RA Bob Hoover? He said, “It’s not how close to the ground you can fly, but how precisely you can control the aircraft.” Or similar...

Don’t know about Shrike, but that sounds like something Hoover would say. Or perhaps Chuck Yeager. It’s sort of like replacing a command with an action. Don’t tell your kids to stay out of t he street, tell them to play in the yard. It’s always easier to do something than to not do something.

Because they’re not blatantly negligent with their high-tech jet liner they’ve been working on since the late 90s. I don’t give a damn about your billion-dollar budget you threw at this, do a flip you pussies.

I was struck by how the scale was not that far from a B-17. It turns out that they are similar in size. But the C-130 has 4 times the HP and takes off at 3 times the weight. It looks like each of the C-130 engines equals 4 B-17 Cyclones...... Wow.

The B-17 is deceptively small. I remember touring one at an air show and my fat self had trouble fitting through parts of it. I noticed this stencil on the outside:
With a crew of 10, that meant that each man weighed an average of just 120 pounds.
The B-17 was modified into a host of variants, but I think this is one of the more interesting ones. It’s the XC-108. Four of them were converted to passenger/cargo duties, and this particular one served as Gen. MacArthur’s personal transport.

Understood, For a big plane, it is not roomy. The waist gunners stood back to back.
The numbers kind of show what beasts modern planes are. B-17 cruised at 170 mph, the Herc does 345. Those 4500 hp allison turbines are something.

I’ve jumped out of a lot o f them but never did that!

I doubt it could have done that if it were full of crazy guys who jump out of airplanes on purpose.

Well not full, just me! I’ve even jumped out of one into the ocean way out of San Diego. My dad was a pilot in Vietnam and he used to have a Stearman biplane, he would do all kinds of crazy stuff, I am well prepared.

For what it’s worth, I had a laugh! But yeah, OC has a point. I just make up silly names to call people. :)
...I’d also like to see a 787 do a roll or loop. Maaaaaaaybe we can get one of Oppo’s pilots to give it a try. lol “Ladies and gentlemen...ah...you may need to grab a beer and/or your barf bag.”

He completely misses it. But I'm not going to his barricade over it. I met my trans nephew this weekend for the first time since he was my niece. I'd tell you about it, but not in this space.
