The last few days have been a lot of work, but not much to show for it. Finally I have the pantry cabinet installed.
My wife is keeping the kids out of the house today, which means it is now time to carve a hole for the hood vent. This will be a whole bunch more work, without much to show for it.

Do you do bathrooms? I have availability all this month and next. Thanks!

A you can see, I'm booked this month. If you have a large wad of cash, let's talk.

I could never do that. I'd measure a million times and it still wouldn't fit.

Nothing fits. Ever. You just have to get over that.

Really? Well now I feel better about myself.
But I still would hire someone to do it. My old neighbor is a general contractor, but he does wood cabinets that are the most gorgeous things ever. I worked for him as a teenager and he taught me so much.

That's what shims and caulk are for :)

My wife and I waffle between wanting to redo our bathroom, and tearing down the house. Tearing it down would provide the best return, but that doesn’t mean we can afford it. Remodeling the bathroom would be nice, but gets us nothing back. The remodel is just beyond my abilities. I ripped out a vanity and installed a pedestal sink, which meant opening up the wall and bracing the studs, but that’s about it for me. And my drywall work leaves a bit to be desired. If love to be able to do what your doing

The caulk is to hide the shims, right?
Whoever installed the toilet in my bathroom didn’t get that memo. I can clearly see all the shims. It’s dumb.

Bingo!
Well, not everyone is good at what they do. In home "improvement" the average is sadly well below average.

Which is sad. Wait, I mean SAD.

Well, you just have to decide how long you’re likely going to be there, and what’s worth it to you. We needed to redo this kitchen no matter what. But there was a we may sell this house in a couple years version, and a we ain’t goin’ nowhere version. Seeing how I custom built cherry cabinets, this is the we ain’t goin’ nowhere version.
I hate doing drywall work. I hire that out whenever I can, but this job isn’t big enough to get anybody in here. I have to do it myself. Bleh.

Indeed it is. The industry is not chalk full of passionate craftsmen. They're way outnumbered by unemployable idiots who stumble from job site to job site.

Yup. I may have to build my own house. That way, when something breaks, it's my own damn fault.

I would love to build a retirement house someday.
