I like the spyder and the 718. No others. The proportions of the earlier ones just look weird to me.

The Boxster and especially the Sypder are to me the most perfectest all around sports car on the planet. Imagine how much louder the exhaust would be on a GT4 if you took the roof off!!
plus with a frunk & trunk you can fit more than any other cab. Perfect for road trips, perfect for the track, perfect for a night out...

I’m not saying there is a right and wrong answer but what if...
The boxster is more about the “experience”, and the higher revving, beautiful sounding, naturally aspirated engine might be a better match.
Where as the cayman, with its stiffer body would be a better match for the perhaps more capable but less characteristic turbo 4.

I feel like someone wrote up a thing recently
about how Boxsters, especially the early ones, are probably at the bottom of their value curve right now. Soon prices
will start ticking up because, while no 911, they are undoubtedly very good cars to drive. With prices for all the other previously-unpopular Porsches going up through the f-ing roof, Boxsters are sure to follow.

i recognize they are great cars, and a literal bargain on the used market, the proportions (deck lid in particular) are just off to me.

Rented a 981 Boxster S when I went to RRV in 2015. Great car, minor squeaks etc with roof up due to being a convertible but great handling and power. I think I would take it over the 718 despite the increased torque, the flat 6 sound vs the Subaru-ish sound is noticeable to me. Maybe with a sport exhaust the 718 would sound more like the of the 50s Carrera 4 cams though

986/higher mile 987 and some mod money, in addition to upkeep, and make it what you want...
Or spend the whole budget on a lower-mile 987/981/718, and maintain it bone stock?
