I’m falling for bad bikes and I feel there’s no escape! What’s more sketch than a ten year old Chinese scooter? How about a ten year old Chinese bike with parts shared with those scooters?

This is the Baja MC125 (the actual bike in question is a bit more beat up, these are just the best pics I found on Google) . Usually Chinese bikes have their engine displacement in their names, however this one is deceptive as the engine is actually a 149cc and not the 125 the name would imply. These things are rare in the States, perhaps even more rare than first generation smarts. Despite the rareness, depreciation hit them so hard they’re basically worthless.

I have a desperate desire to buy it, if only the darned owner will get back to me already.

Oh god, I love it. It’s basically a real bike powered by scooter bits. I would mount a little winch to the front of it and the same LEDs I was going to use for the scooter project. I wanna Gamble the heck out of it more than any scooter!

And the best part is that the one I’m looking at is a runner going for way less than any equivalent 150 scooter and the “worst” part of it appears to be a seat held together with duct tape.

Save me.

If the owner does not want to get back to you, then that is the sign to pass on this bike.

That is a neat looking bike. I am trying to figure out if the 2 exhaust pipes share 1 exhaust valve.

chinese? sketch?... naaaah.. cheaply made and build quality probably has more squeeks and rattles than we’d normally find acceptable... but it will probably run most of the time

I first messaged them around midnight. They haven’t read it yet. I realize not everyone is monitoring their FB Messages (I sure don’t) so I’ll give them some time. As usual, I’m not even trying to haggle as the price is already low.

I’m not sure about the exhaust pipes. Can’t say I’ve ever seen a single cylinder with two pipes before!

Hang on, uh. Didn’t you need help to get your existing bike out of impound? This seems like a ridiculously poor decision if you lack emergency funds to even cover impound fees.

Not trying to be a dick but you might want to reevaluate some things, especially with how much it seems you mention your financial straits.

I did. The impound situation more or less caught me at the worst possible time. I had just moved into a new place and burned through my emergency funds to satisfy some creditors. Apparently Miss Tesla racked up some sweet bills in my name when she was living in my old apartment by herself after our breakup. I didn’t find out until I tried to get those utilities in my name at the condo. Oof.

Since then, the two loans I took out last year reached their maturity dates (freeing up more monthly income) and I got the fourth smart out of its prison (more monthly income). The person who helped me got their money back and my emergency fund is back to it’s “pre condo” level. Ideally I’d like to have a few months’ income as my fund, and that’s entirely possible now that my parents are no longer stealing my money.

The bike would replace the old Gambler project as the new Gambler project, which I’ve already started parting out. Once all is said and done, I should break even.

Baja?? lol I think this was the motorbike the maker tried to launch in India, to take on the Bajaj.. but after India levied the mother of all taxes on Chinese made motorbikes, they were forced to pull out.

We have a plague of Chinese bikes in Chile and they all have terrible electrics and cheap components that brake in a few months. Although if that thing has survived running for 10 years it’s quite impressive. And this is coming from someone who thinks that some Chinese cars are good althou gh I would stay away from their bikes.
