Today’s Bastille Day (although it’s la fê te nationale if you’re French) , when the French remember and celebrate (or regret) a process which began on this day in 1789 and continued with the overthrow of a hated monarchy, the Terror, Napoleon, the return of the (now less hated after they had seen the other choices) monarchy, another Napoleon, th e further return of the monarchy, various republics and Monsieur Macron.

Have red, white and blue Clios because pourquoi pas.

For the French, it’s  blue, white, and red. The other direction is what ‘mericans do.

Back in high school, when I was studying French, it was drilled into us that that the colors were bleu blanc et rouge . The blue is also on the hoist of the flag. But if the French don’t care, then who am I to judge? Though there does seem to be a preponderance of red in that painting. What is it?

Red is the dominant colour, the flag is 30% blue, 33% white and 37% red.
