N othing fancy, just an older but fairly clean ThinkPad L420 with an i5, won on eBay for $27. The LCD was damaged, but I found a suitable replacement in my piles of junk. I also scrounged 8GB of RAM and a 120GB SSD replacing the 4GB and 160GB hard drive. It didn’t come with a power supply, but I had one laying around. I also discovered that the mini dock I found at the Goodwill Outlet (where else?) was compatible with this machine once I figured out how to slide one part out of the way.
Windows install is progressing, and then I can give it a little workout. I know it’s not a killer performance machine, but it’s a ThinkPad and that means it’ll soldier on for years. Perhaps it’ll make a nice upgrade for my dad; I think he’s still using the same old computer he bought 7-8 years ago.

You did really good. I’m using a T420 right this minute. I paid quite a bit more from a refurbisher (about $200) but also put in an SSD and more memory and really love it. The main reason this is such an awesome computer is that it has a real keyboard. I cannot stand chiklet keyboards and that is the only kind of keyboard that is made anymore.

This reminds me, I need to get around to finding a Windows 7 ISO so I can reinstall it on my old Laptop.

Agreed - the keyboards on ThinkPads are amongst the best, both in feel and in design. R emember the old butterfly keyboard on the 701C ? Engineering genius right there. I loved that little mac hine, but gave it to a friend that needed a notebook. Too bad he lost his temper and punched it out. Better that than his wife...

Even for $27? Yeah there’s a number of features I wish this thing had, but c’mon, $27...

That is a nice tidy little machine.

As long as you have your key, MS has you covered: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows7?
Last I checked, even though the free upgrade program has officially ended Windows 10 installers (which you can also get from MS) still accept Windows 7/8 keys for new installs as well.

I do have my key however it's an Asus OEM key so it just tells me to go to Asus when I try to use it on Microsoft's site.
