You need to watch that movie again. Very soon, or I will cancel your summer vacation and make you go in and teach Pre-Algebra to 17-year-olds.

I need to make a post about all the work I’ve been doing this summer in and around my workshop. My gig is functional things done very tidy and looking like someone thought about it. I consider myself more of a fabricator than a woodworker, per se .

How’s your summer? Did you patch that floor joist?

What summer vacation?  I’ve been at school everyday building custom cabinets for my kitchen remodel.  Gotta get them out of here by Friday, so the custodians can wax the floor in and outside of my shop.

No, not whining. Just on a deadline. My porch is full of custom cherry cabinets now.

I was trolling you. Nice to have a proper shop to work in. I’ve been working on my own workshop, as I’ve mentioned, and it’s amazing how long it takes to do a proper job of it.

Check this guy out, he’s on YouTube :

https://www.jackmanworks.com/

He’s no more skilled than I am, but his wife is off on deployment for months at a time and he uses all of that time to develop his talent and he makes splendid, beautiful things. And he has also done a superb job with the video editing. Next boots I buy, I’m shopping for Carolina boots.

I’ve thought of you a number of times this summer, wanting to show you what I’ve been up to. When things slow down, I’ll post some pictures. You should do the same. Tickle me when you do.

But do make some time for Netflix and chill with Wifey...

Here are the cabinets. Now the hard part. Actually tearing apart the kitchen and putting them in.

I feel. But doing this chore, IMHO, doesn’t make it a bad summer. I did kitchen dress-up a few years ago and it was definitely a chore, but Wifey and I both have enjoyed the fruits of the toil and I’ve taken great satisfaction in it since.

It is desperately needed. Our kitchen is well past its expiration date. Everything must go (except the fridge). I'm looking forward to a kitchen I can be proud of rather than ashamed of.

I feel. So it was with us. And how many tens of thousands of dollars are you saving by doing the chore yourself? Much to be said for that.

I honestly have no idea how much I'm saving, but I definitely couldn't afford to pay someone else.
