Years ago I was living in England when they reduced the sales tax rate from 1 5% to 12 . British Telecom said it was going to take them 6 months to update their com puter systems to apply the new tax rate,and they’d credit everyone the difference on their pho ne bills after it was done .

I thought “screw that,it can’t take 6 months, there’s something fishy there”. I did som e really hairy maths on 3% of the whole country’s phone bill for 6 months and came to the conclusion they were helping themse l ves to an interest free loan of about 25 million pounds from the British   public.

So e ve ry phone bill till they fixed it,I wor k ed out the corre c t tax rate and short paid them ( about 5 pennies) . Take that, The Man!

I know this feel for multiple cents, but never just one cent. What the heck? At least it’s a plausible typo, I guess.
