Edit: the MVD rejected my plate.
My latest endeavour, Oppo, is submitting OFSGIVN as a vanity plate through the MVD. I told them it was a portmanteau of a holiday only in our family where we do an Offering + Thanksgiving.
I am waiting to get my plate or my rejection letter.
Like I have told people before, I did manage to get VAJAZZL through the MVD as well by telling them that I was a member of the Virginia Jazz League. Someone reported me 3 months later and I turned the plates in as a 7 letter punchline is not worth dealing with some crummy review board.
Other ones I have tried:
NYANYAN (success)
HRPADRP (success)
BOBOBUT (failure)
KHAAAN (success)
I get my registration fee back if they reject the plate. And the rules for what isn’t allowed (in my state) is pretty comprehensive:

So, Oppo, what’s your vanity plate story?

I know for a fact some of the plates on the banned list would be allowed in other states.

So, two strikes (so far). Aren’t you on some list now?

I’ve never had one.
My uncle, however, learning that NCC 1701 was taken by another driver in WI, we went with NC 1701D for his ‘94 Impala SS.
Now that we have 7 digit standard plates in the XYZ- 1234 format (it used to be 123- ABC) I can’t wait to see if NCC- 1701 will be issued as a standard plate .
Same uncle also had GETO CAR on his ‘75 LeSabre convertible:
H e eventually got standard collector plates for it, but I wonder if anyone in the hood ever got a kick, or mad, at those personalized plates he once had.

I meant to write “in my state” and for some reason that didn’t make the publish. Sorry about that.

Actually, yeah. After a few of those, the online system rejected me from every plate submission for about a year. Amazingly, they have an oblivious or indifferent customer support department that simply unlocked it for me again.

A popular reference as a plate is typically submitted multiple times. I am betting there are a few out there who are totes jelly about those plates.

I’m in the process of “reserving” a plate for my motorcycle. 4-6 weeks and they tell me if I’m good to go.
I just hope they don’t google it.
Edit: dang even longer
Thank you for applying for the Personalized Plate with the configuration of (retracted)
. If your configuration is approved, you will receive an e-mail within 6-8 weeks with instructions on how to pick up your personalized plates.

If you replace the O with a zero, and know what the F stands for, you’re in the money.

Depends on the state. mine is $25 per year-ish.

Oh, good. I donated but it didn’t show up and I thought I did something wrong. It’s worth a buck or two.
