The only thing I remember about those, other than the looks, is that they were very fast and very hard to fly. Kind of a 427 Cobra of the skies.

A burrito is probably more stable in the air.

Looks like they just mounted wings and a cockpit to an engine.

It was built as a racer. It flew, but had a reputation. Only the most skilled pilots could fly it.

I’ve loved it since I built a model as a kid. There’s a full size model as you drive thru Springfield, Ma. Learn more about it!  http://theoldmotor.com/?p=153574

It actually set the landplane speed record in 1932 at 296 mph. It did also kill two people though so...

GeeBee! The original was built and flown just a few miles from where I grew up, though sadly the airport was turned into a shopping plaza long before I was born. There's two static replicas in the area, one in the New England Air Museum in Windsor Locks and the other in the Museum of Springfield History

It was a bomber engine with wings, designed to do one thing, go really fast.

I believe you, but t just doesn’t look like it should fly. It doesn’t make sense to me.  It’s the equivalent of Michael Moore dunking a basketball.
