My cottage-neighbor brought his awesome beater pickup truck to our little enclave of cottages as a work truck for the summer. Hauled up his log splitter, averaging almost 30mpg on the interstate.
Funny
story for His Stigness, the truck failed its safety inspection in Delaware due to rotten rear fenders. So they ran across the street to Walmart, bought a couple rolls of Gorilla tape, “fixed” the fenders as you can see in the pic, and it passed inspection. Probably increased structural stiffness by about 60%.

What? I’m curious as to how this is now considered “fixed” by inspection criteria. Is the rule literally, “No visible rust holes” or something?

For a fender, it probably is that simple. They probably want to make sure the fenders contain road spray, etc. Or don’t fall off.

Here in PA, there simply can’t be any sharp edges that a person can cut themselves on from the outside of the vehicle.
