I have a collection of cars growing on my desk that conform to one very specific rule...
My collection is not complete, but with every one I add, fewer cars can qualify.
What is the rule?
UPDATE:
That was pretty fast! I knew you Opponauts wouldn’t let me down. You have even highlighted rules I didn’t know I was following!
The winner is Highlander-Mazda now with rust! No two cars share the same engine configuration!
I don’t know how far I will take this. For example, would a GT350 Mustang fit because it’s not supercharged like the Z06, even though it’s a V8? What about a Ferrari 355, V8 but mid-engine? Or an Enzo? It’s a V12 but not transverse like the Muira? Thoughts?
Bonus points for everyone who called out the different decades! I didn’t event realize it, but will be sure to double-up in my next addition.
Thanks for playing!

rule: no car may be of the same scale

Nope, couple of 1: 64s in there, but good guess!!
You’ re on the right track.

They all have different engine configurations
, ie flat 4, flat 6, V10, V8, V6 etc...

2 doorz.

One from each decade?
![]() 07/06/2018 at 10:37 |

No cars of the same color

One coupe from every decade?

The Car must have been/is being used for racing.

50's - 356
60's -Miura
70's - 917
80's - Honda
90's - RX7
00's- 997
10's - C7

I’m assuming engine configuration and possibly layout. The Muira’s transverse V12 is an oddball for sure.

No two cars of the same color scheme, if you count the Miura’s green differently than the Outlaw Porsche 356s’ teal differently.
No two cars introduced in the same decade:
356: 1950s
Miura: 1960s
917K: 1970s
Honda City Turbo: 1980s
FD3s RX7: 1990s
997 GT3: 2000s (introduction)
C7 Corvette: 2010s

My collection is not complete, but with every one I add, fewer cars can qualify.
Te
chnically speaking, this could be as simple as “No two cars of the same type”.

Awesome guess! W asnt my rule but good job seeing the pattern
![]() 07/06/2018 at 11:08 |

Ooooo good guess! I didn’ t even realize I that
Bonus poi nts to you!

Winner Winner carbon splitter!
Good job! How specific should I get? Do you think a GT350 would count? How about a Zonda??

Hmmm...
you win this round smarty pants , but I’ve got my eye on you...
![]() 07/06/2018 at 11:15 |

Yes! You got it! H ighlander Mazda got it first but great job!
How far should I go? Would a Ferrari California count because it’s not supercharged? How about a 458 Italia?
![]() 07/06/2018 at 11:16 |

That is true. A some variance in driveline, also.
C7: front Pushrod V8, rear transaxle. C7R/ZR1 IIRC is supercharged.
Miura: mid-engined Transverse V12, mid-gear driven transaxle, IIRC
917K long tail: various 917s had air-cooled flat 12s or flat 8s, longitudinal mid-mount. Lemans long-tails I believe had 12s... the shorter CanAm cars may have gone to flat-8...
997 GT3: water-cooled flat 6, rear-mount.
Honda City Turbo/Turbo II: transverse I4 turbocharged, end-driven transaxle like most transverse front-engined fwd.
356 Outlaw: air-cooled flat 4, rear mounted. (similar driveline layout to 997 with forward-facing longitudinal transaxle, but different cylinder count, engine cooling method, and just about everything else)
FD3S RX7: two-rotor, sequential turbocharged wankel rotary, front-mid engined, engine-mounted transmission, rear drive.

Good answer because you have somehow picked up that I like racecars
But nope. :)

Great guess I didn’t even realize that !
Bonus points to you !
![]() 07/06/2018 at 11:18 |

No but didn’t realize the coupe preference! I’ll be sure to get a sedan next.
Maybe a V10 one :)

You have a v8 with the
Aston
corvette
, you need an inline 6 and maybe a W8/W12, straight 8?

What is the 2-part rule for mine?
(hint... it is not nearly as organized a rule as Danimalk’s rule)
These are cars/bikes that I either ___ or appreciate the ___ of.
![]() 07/06/2018 at 11:31 |

Mustang GT350, modern at least... would be a DOHC V8, unlike the pushrod Corvette, with an engine mounted transmission , rather than a rear-transaxle. Similar driveline to the RX7.
Pagani Zonda has a mid-engined longitudinal V12, different orientation than the Miura, same orientation as the Porsche 917, but liquid cooled, unlike the 917.
You don’t yet have a V10... you could go R8 (and consider it an R8 5.2 variant), Lamborghini Gallardo or Huracan (standard 610-4 or Performante track car) , or a Dodge Viper. I don’t know of a die-cast Ram SRT10 Pickup.

Oooo, nice a full roll cage! Love the description.
See the problem with the inline 6 is that too many cool cars came with them. I CAN’T PICK ONE!!
IF ONLY I DIDN’T HAVE SO MANY RULES!!
![]() 07/06/2018 at 11:34 |

Mercedes 300SL or
Jag E-Type.
![]() 07/06/2018 at 11:36 |

Ferrari California T is now turbocharged, and DOHC, where the Corvette is supercharged, and pushrod-OHV, both have front-mid engines, and rear transaxles.
458 Italia is mid-longitudinal DOHC V8. Ferraris are getting a bit harder to find, since Hot Wheels/Mattel lost the license. BBurago or Maisto I believe has it now, but not positive.

I kind of want a E60 M5 for the V10 and the four doors.
Someone pointed out they are all coupes! No rules on body styles . :)
![]() 07/06/2018 at 11:40 |
|
I think my problem is if I’m going to be a car nerd, how nerdy do I wanna get?
V10 should be first on the list since I don’t have any of those, but getting too into engine aspiration, orientation, and position will take it to the next level, haha
![]() 07/06/2018 at 11:44 |

Those are both great, iconic examples.
For racing cars... and something a bit more modern...
Z4 M coupe Motorsport
It still does use a 3.2L 400hp DOHC I6... (had to check that they didn’t drop a 4.0L V8 or something in the motorsport version...)
![]() 07/06/2018 at 11:52 |

Now you just need a late model Impala SS for a transverse V8 fwd, a 70’s Cadillac for longitudinal V8 fwd, a Tatra 603 for longitudinal rear engine V8 rwd, an R8/Gallardo/Huracan for mid V10 awd , an LFA/Viper for front V10... ( list continues forever)

True... depends on how far to go to classify narrowly enough to display the cars you want. ;-)
An E60 V10 M5, or E62/63 M6 might be interesting to find... maybe Tomica or something other than HotWheels/Matchbox. The F10 M5 police car from Matchbox is a nice piece, but the F10-generation M5, and F12 M6 are twin-turbo V8 cars ;-)

I have some Lesney- casting E-types... but not that one, that is gorgeous.
![]() 07/06/2018 at 12:00 |

Oh that’ s true about the turbos in the F cars!
Thinking about it now, ANY M5 would work fit my system at this point, haha!

You should do every engine configuration and drivetrain layout.
That way you can justify an M1 and a 1M and an e46 M3.
