Back in May I went to the dealer for a brake fluid flush. I know others might be able to do it cheaper, but the idea of Ford doing it gave me some small measure of confidence that they should do it correctly. At least that was my thought.
I missed autocross that month, so didn’t push the brakes all too hard in
normal driving, but with two AX dates in June I noticed after my first
one that the front brakes had brake fluid coming down the outside of the
calipers. It isn’t a lot, but any loss from the bleeders is too much,
and a sign that something isn’t right. Unfortunately I was starting a
training class at the time, so it took me some time to get back in to
have them look at it.
The car went in this morning.
But.
Last night at my lunch break I went to take the car out and the back up
camera was “unavailable”. It was still not working this morning when I
left work, and still not working when I went to the dealer, so I asked
them to look at it. “We can get it in right now for the brake issue, but
it will take a few days for our warranty tech to look at the camera
issue.”
Since it’s my daily driver (and only car) I told them that the only way they could keep it was to give me a loaner.
So now this is in my driveway:

Circa 2001, my mom paid Toyota $400 for a batch of routine maintenance.
They put PS fluid in her brake reservoir.
One caliper locked up on the way home and she slammed into a curb at low speed.
Towed back to dealer, at which point the dealer tried to charge her $3,000 for a new brake system and front end work.
Toyota corporate took the dealer’s side through three rounds of letters. Only after an attorney was called did they admit fault.
Needless to say, Toyota is a bad word in my family.

I feel you, I’m rocking a loaner Impreza while my BRZ is at the dealer (the techs like me there, but it was all they had and the service manager actually apologized for the loaner).
The last time they had it for more than a day or two I got a sweet Forester XT, fun turbo noises, plenty of room to use it to get some more autox tires mounted, and it even had a heated steering wheel (it was a cold week in January and that was a nice feature).

wow.
Thankfully my dealer gets in modified Mustangs pretty often. Mine wasn’t the only one sitting on the lot awaiting something. When it was in last the service advisor said he had given my car to his Shelby tech, so I had good expectations...

I was just kind of happy that they gave up the loaner without much fight. It’s not a Mustang, but it’s better than walking in the 103 heat.

I would happily take that Fusion over the Elantra I'm stuck in while my GTI has timing chains done. At least the Fusion feels like its attached to the road in some way.
