I thought I could make it work, but my mental health and mood have been deteriorating these last few weeks. I will be resigning in the next few weeks. I just need to secure a new job first. I’m at the point where I’ve woken up the past four days stressed about having to go into work. I’m overworked and underpaid for the amount I have to do (it doesn’t help that I work with and have access to compensation info daily). I’m mentally and physically drained. I’ve been working on revamping my resume, which has also led me to realize that it’s just not working out at my company. Meetings upon meetings have also left me realizing how undervalued I’m being treated for the amount of work I do. Some coworkers also look down at me due to being the youngest person on the team, and are unappreciative for the amount of support I provide them and the department. The environment in (and outside) of the office has also been souring. Too much drama and politics within the various departments. Too many rules and procedures that the leadership team breaks themselves. Too much whining, nepotism, and turnover that I’ve had to deal with our operations teams. Too little time to live life, have a work-life balance, and too few days where I can even see or be outside (we have no windows in the office).
Note: I’ll reply after I get off work

good idea to get out, good luck with your job hunting.
if you don’t look after your health, no one else will.

Do what I did, just quit. Give your two-week notice even if you don’t have a new job. After 18 years and six mergers/aquisitions, I had had enough.
(Don’t do what I did, find a new job first)

That sucks. Time to focus on what’s important - finding a new job, and making sure you know what to look for in that new job. Good luck!

Do what’s right for you - your health isn’t worth a job. I’m coming off a burnout and doing much better, but man, it takes time to be properly well again.
Good luck with your job search.

Your story is so common, I could have written it for almost all of my prior jobs. Good luck with your search. Overall I’ve never seen such a healthy economy and active job market in my adult life. Hopefully that’s the case in your area/field.
Compensation is funny. Even if a person is happy with what they earn, if they learn that they’re behind their peers, they are instantly dissatisfied even though nothing has changed. They even did a study with chimps to prove this out — and it worked. They want the rewards their peers are getting.

Some recommendations...I have no idea what you have or haven’t done.
- Discuss your situation with Management offline. Sometimes they can help or give you a raise/bonus. Most would rather not train someone else; especially if you are good.
- Polish your resume to include your management skills and not always what you liked doing
- Ensure you prepare for Behavior Questions at an interview. For Example: “What did you dislike the most about your last job?”

Find a new job, and run away. I guarantee you almost everyone has done this at some point in their life, I have more than once.

One thing I learned over time that led me to self employment is that as soon as you leave, your job will be posted on numerous job sites and filled almost immediately. There is not appreciation for people in the corporate world. Some people can thrive in that environment because they know that they can jump from company to company due to the interchangeability in role functions at each place.
I couldn’t function in that space. Now I stress about other things like where my cash flow is going to come from when my customer decides to take 90 days to pay an invoice that’s worth $55k and I have another customer give me an order for $80k.

There is a company that sells a giant fortune cookie with basically a letter inside with whatever you want on it, if you want to turn in your resignation letter with style?
Best of luck on the job hunt! I left my first real job at an OEM I won’t name here for some of the same reasons. One of the best career decisions I’ve made.

Life’s too short to be miserable doing what occupies most of your daylight hours. Good luck!

You can tell anyone anything as long as you say it correctly.

Yes, but you watch the body language and some other people will proclaim their brilliance or disdain for the last location.

Thank you. My title doesn’t include “generalist,” but it’s essentially what I do... HRIS, comps and benefits admin, recruiting, employee relations, etc. I’m underpaid given the pay range we have set internally and the amount of work

Thank you for doing all of that. I spent most of my career at smaller companies where a good handful of generalists was a blessing — questions about benefits, payroll, complaints, etc would all go through the same people and it was a huge relief and timesaver.
Now with 270,000 coworkers, there’s some outsourced 800 number for each specific question I have (many of them offshore). It’s not helping keep me on board, that’s for sure.

The job market is (allegedly) hot so... fingers crossed.
Remember when you give notice: counter-offers, if they make one, are only for the company’s benefit, not yours. It gives them time to find a replacement, transfer knowledge, and unceremoniously fire you. Also all of the reasons you want to quit now will still exist.

My department consists of 25 people. I have a hand in everything they do. It’s exhausting. My company owns way too many other companies that have their own sets of challenges. I’ve been in my role almost 9 months now and I’m sick of everything

Entrepeneurship os something that has been on my mind constantly. But I don’t know what type of business to start... even of it’s a side gig.
If you don’t mind, may you share what you do?
