While driving through Colorado, we happened across what I can only figure is a vast VW diesel graveyard next to the Pike’s Peak Int’l Raceway. Many still had the window sticker affixed. What’s going to happen to these? The crusher? Such a waste....

A dealer in our state has been advertising that they have fixed diesels for cheap with 2yr CPO warranties. But I have not investigated.

No emissions testing in my state. I would looove to go pick out one to bring home.

Buy them for dirt, crank up the boost, and turn them into spec racers. Who cares about emissions for non-Road use vehicles.

There’s also a huge collection of these sitting on the WA coast in Aberdeen:

Only one of the lots is really visible from the main road, with apparently tons more nearer the water. Cars have been stored there for over a year, although I am not sure if it is the same stock, or if cars are rotated in and out.

The fixed diesels have been showing up on used lots quite a bit lately. Many of them are decently cheap - 10-15k for cars with 20-75k miles. Since my wife and I are looking for a second vehicle because it’ll cost far too much for the Cherokee, these might be on the list.

It’s Colorado, are you sure this wasn’t just a mall parking lot?
The Subarus all tend to park on the other side, closer to Hot Topic.

Since they don’t meed Federal guidelines, you won’t be able to register them.

I can’t imagine these cars being sat for so long would do them much good.
Flat batteries, tyres flat and walls crack with a lot of UV damage, dried UV damaged window seals, heat damaged dashboards, etc...

I don’t know. Probably no worse than sitting in somebody’s driveway for these few years. It’s certainly dry there, so no rust issues.

Thats ok, I’ll take one for free to go rally racing with.

When did you drive past the lot? When I went to a Time Attack event at PPIR over the weekend I was surprised to see a very large portion of the cars had been removed from the lot compared to three weeks earlier.

We drove by there on Tuesday , and saw the lot from the southbound side of the interstate. No idea when this Google maps image was taken.

Monster Jam?
I kid, it would be great if they fixed them all and gave them a bigly warranty. There is so much environmental impact already caused by manufacturing them. It would be a shame to scrap them.

Ye’, but sat in a driveway for that length of time wouldn’t be all that good for them either.

Yeah, the Google Maps image is indicative of what the lot has looked like for quite a while up until recently. I only saw the perimeter of the lot lined with cars, rather than entire grids and rows.

All but the oldest or worst-condition ones are probably going to be fixed and resold. The older ones will be scrapped for parts—if you think about it, just about everything but the engine and emissions components are interchangeable with all the gasoline ones out on the road.

I can’t be the only one thinking it, right?

They have been exporting them to other countries to sell that don’t have issues with them being there
