I love the ‘Icelandy’ look, but are 315/75r16 just too big for the Defender?
My other option is 285/75r16.
Oppo-pinions requested.

It looks so meaty, I love it.

33's more tire more trouble. 33's are the sweet spot.

So in real money, you’re voting 285's, right?

235/85-16 is the right way

aye. I could have put 35's on mine, Im geared for it, I have all the suspension mods I would need but...why? taller, heavier, costlier tires that I haven’t needed yet and don’t forsee needing.

That’s what she’s rocking at the moment, but new HD springs and shocks all-round has cured my sagging front and made them look a bit lost under there.

Well, the 315s look daft for a start. Also, more money, more rolling resistance.

more tire = more lift, more money, more gearing, more height, more resistance, more rotating mass.
I concur with HHFP, 285/75/r16 is a nice sweet spot, depending on how you’ll be using them.

While this looks *awesome*, why go through all the trouble fitting those tires if you’re going to ruin the clearance that that stupid little step?
That said, unless you have the clearance, power and axles strong enough to support 35s, you really don’t need them. The 285s look sweet too and are a much more practical tire.

Mud and rough ground, slowly, and with a flatbed trailer attached

285/75/16 BFG ATs are some of the finest tires I’ve ever owned. Quiet, ride nice, and they wear like iron...plus the size is juuuuuuust right.

Those steps fold up and under the body.
I’ve got the clearance and the axles, but it’s a Defender so the power is a big fat nope whatever I put on it.

this look

Yeah I love the Icelandy look too, but everyone is right.
I’ll just add that I think that you’d probably know if you needed the 315s. If you got yourself into rough situations where you needed extra tire, I’m guessing you’d know without having the dilemma.

they look so good with a whole lot of tire.....(maxxis trepador 37")
those 285 ought to do most anything you need.......

That’s called room to move. It’s a feature that is vastly underrated by a multitude of 4x4 owners.

I agree

Would you even have room for full articulation with tires that fat/big?

As long as the wheels are et0 like the bottom pic, then yes. The top pic is probably et-32 wheels, hence the extended wheel arches.
