We have arrived.

Please tell me they still have billboards starting like, in Minnesota, increasing in frequency until you can’t bring yourself NOT to stop, just to see what all the hype is about. Also there’s not much else going on besides the Corn Palace.

Mr. Gorbachev, I hate two things: walls and drugs.

Saw the Corn Palace this morning. And yes, billboards every 50 feet.

Wall Drug is great, make sure to head to Badlands NP and at least drive the loop (the park entrance is very close to Wall).

Just get the damn bumper sticker okay?

Oh, don’t worry, we will.

I don’t remember anything quite as underwhelming as the first trip to wall drug

Where the hell is wall drug!
Warm enough for you?

Do drive the Badlands NP loop. It’s one of my favorite things in the USA.

It’s pretty hot to be sure. But it should be a fair bit cooler tomorrow and the rest of the week.

This place is full of cheap, trashy, kitschy touristy junk on an enormous scale. It’s fantastic.

It’s in the middle of nowhere in SD. It’s been a tourist attraction along I90 for like ever.

It was a joke based off of the famous bumper sticker.;)

It’s on the agenda. Tomorrow is Rushmore. Badlands and Minute Man missile is the next day. I have no idea what day it is.

It’s on the agenda. Tomorrow is Mt. Rushmore.

Also, because of your love for aviation, check out the South Dakota Air and Space Museum in Box Elder (my sister lives there- her husband is stationed at Ellsworth!). I’ve never been, but it’s on the list.

Sadly, we may not have time. Itinerary isn’t completely set, but that’s a bit down the list. Not everyone in my family is an airplane junkie.

But... but... they have a B-1B!!!

For the past 24 years, I played trumpet in an orchestra in Abilene, TX, home of Dyess AFB. Dyess houses the 7th Bomb Wing, the only other Bone wing in the country. For all of those 24 years, I spent my free time out at the base watching planes, and the last few years photographing them. I have seen many, many Bones, and quite a few other types as well. Not that I wouldn’t like to see more. I’m not sure I can count an Ellsworth B-1 on my list.

There’s also the Minuteman Missile Historic Site at the other end of the park - I’ve never made it there (sadly always closed by the time we’ve got there) but it’s supposed to be a cool stop as you can tour the launch control capsule:

We tried, but you need a reservation for the tour and it’s booked through July. There is another site where you can walk around outside and look down in a silo. Doing that tomorrow.
