Hello Opponauts. Your mission if you choose to accept it is help me help my dad find a car for my little sister. It has to be a car/wagon not a truck. Budget is $4000. Looking for something that won’t require too much up front maintenance. Low miles is preferred but if properly maintained for the mileage it won’t be ruled out. The newer the better. My dad is not a fan of any of the Big Three manufactures. Prefers Japanese cars and so do I for the most part but if you can make a good argument for something else, I will pass on the argument to the boss. I am in Rochester, MN for Craiglist searches. Willing to travel to the Twin Cities for a car.
Some airborne Subaru’s for your time,

You can’t go wrong with a Camry. They never die.

Lol of course you would recommend that. What do they get mileage wise?

Low 20s. My wife has had hers throughout college and it was perfect. Moving stuff to and from college, back and forth from home, it’s big and safe, etc. http://www.rightfootdown.com/cars/reviews/avid-defender-lexus-rx/

I’ll sell you my wagon:
It will reliably take her everywhere she needs to go and then some as long as she treats it with care and respect.

Everything you say is wrong.
Or preferably this, ‘cause V8.
Oh, a budget. That’s cute

But in all seriousness, as much as it hurts to say, if they aren’t interested in cars just get a Camry or Accord.
Excuse me while I go sanitize my keyboard after that blasphemy.

I just wonder why they are like, “Hey, it’s clean, at least!”. It’s in Maine, at least.
Sure, automatic, but at least she can eat at the same time she drives in the city.

As a Jalop I’m not supposed to say this but... she needs a Corolla.
Inexpensive
Minimal and easy maintenance
Japanese
Small and easy to drive
Won’t be heartbroken when she crashes it into things

How about this Prius?
It was originally for sale a few weeks back from the same dealer for 1k cheaper. Maybe they could be talked down?

Yeah no. Do your part and say no to captive rotors.

Small truck at least balances captive rotors, V8 in the mix bottoms out the scale so hard the rotors achieve escape velocity

Technically it checks the boxes and it can only end well .
Seriously though dont. Look at a Rav-4 like this one or this one
I would suggest a CR-V but unless you know what to look for and correct the issue, stay away from anything 2002 or newer. This 1999 one would be good .

$3995 she’s yours. Suspension, brakes, lines are all new. Engine/trans have 122k (3.8L 4-speed).
No electronic nannies to distract her.
