custom shift knob(s), to go with a new short shift kit. My right hand is ready

One knob that’s OEM shaped and made to match my gauges, another that’s spherical and I just asked for “red galaxy”

The holy grail of aftermarket short throw shifters! The Miataroadster short shift kit! This has been a bucketlist mod for years and I finally decided to pull the trigger. I’ve driven two cars with the kit installed.... And good god. This is NOT your ebay shift kit that gives you a new steel shaft that’s been chopped in half. This is a full kit that comes with everything need to install and rebuild/replace every single part. OEM parts are included with the kit, and the fulcrum point is adjusted properly. You want to experience a shifter that makes an S2000 gearbox feel like hot garbage? Here you go.

Unlike the above image, I ordered mine without a bend. Getting the knob closer to the wheel might have been nice, but I’m not too concerned about it. Plus, I feel like the lack of symmetry would bug me....

Also different, decided to go with gloss black for the shaft (if you’re bursting at the seams trying to hold in the dick jokes... Fine. Okay. Let it out. You know where the comment section is). Black metal has apparently become a mini interior theme.

Ordered without a taper, so the shaft is a continuous 10mm (or maybe 14mm? Idk) and meant to be completely bootless. Ordered a shaft two inches longer than stock, but the throws should still be a hair shorter than stock due to the changed fulcrum point.

3 weeks until everything is built and sent out. I don’t know if I can wait

Looks like a cool kit! I’ve never driven a short shift kit I liked. I kinda enjoy long throws, makes it more fun to slam around imo.

Me neither, until this one. Although to be fair the two prior ones I had experience with were ebay specials for a Mustang and 350z. They were so bad I wouldn’t have been surprised if the guy accidentally swapped the two!

It was bad. Shifting into 5th your fingers got caught between the knob and the transmission tunnel.

Ugh. Electrical systems and I are currently taking a break. There’s just no spark anymore.

It’s a resin/epoxy/wood/something or other. I’ve been watching the maker churn out gorgeous shift knobs and decorative pieces for a while, it’s a one man operation

First off those are beautiful. What is the weight on those?? Feel pretty solid?? Second. About changing the fulcrum point... is that not bad for the transmission?? I had heard it was.

Cool cool. I’m curious to hear your results. Was looking at short throw kits. I actually just ordered a 1lb stainless ball from Moddiction... but I don’t know if it has shipped or what... I guess it’s just one guy and it might take a little while. Been using a voodoo and just wanted to try heavier and bigger.

I’m kind of on a shopping spree cause I got my refund check lol. I’m about to buy some Advanti storms in black (f-ing 10lbs for the 15x7). I’ve always wanted black wheels and have never gotten them. Stop me from buying them lol I’ve got them and 949 racing black lugs in my cart at goodwin!

Hot dang, I now want this:

I spent the evening reinstalling a functional shifter linkage on top of my transaxle. I got covered in parf off the bottom of my car, but I now have access to fifth and reverse again, so yeeeeeees!

Just need to figure out where a fuel leak is coming from (I suspect it’s the probably-original line back there, grumble) and then the parsh is back in business.

Ha really? Yeah that polished black pearl was sexy, but I was ok with the regular brushed stainless (it was cheaper anyways haha).

I decided to sleep on it. I still want the wheels and they ship for free and fit my current 195 50 15 tires... so I just have to. I’m doing it. I’m running out of space in my apt for spare parts now dammit.
