I think in the case, it was the back end. And the wheels. And where ever they keep the pride.

Cars are an analogy for all pro sports teams.
A multinational conglomeration of loosely assorted parts from completely different places, all pretending to get along and act as a single unit for a little while until it no longer makes economic sense.

The front never fell off. The back fell off.
Blaming Jake Gardiner is a cliche and I hate using it, in fact I usually stand up for him because he puts up more points than he allows even with all his spectacular breakdowns... but dayum. For someone who usually performs under pressure he fucking blew it. 1st tying goal and final go-ahead goal were both on him. Not to mention a stupid pinch in a tied Game 4 that the Leafs were dominating in.
Eh, it is what it is. He’s infuriating but to quote Babcock “who do you want out there instead”. They simply don’t have the defense to lock down a game they’re losing against a team like the Bruins. They can lock down a lead fairly well (unhappy ending notwithstanding) which is a welcome change, but they don’t have the depth on the back to stop the bleeding when they have to push hard.

The pride died in Game 1. The frustration rose in and after Game 2. At this point I’m just glad they ended up putting up a fight.
But yeah, that D needs work. I don’t often blame Gardiner because memorability aside he’s not as bad as most think... but woof, what a time to lay an egg. If Reilly hadn’t come back they’d have been murdered.
