Sometime in the future, gas prices will climb back up to $4.50 as a recession happens, people will shit themselves over the next great depression, and trade in their SUVs/crossovers for Prii/electric vehicles, with Honda/Toyota/maybe actually GM (but you know they’ll fuck this up) laughing all the way to the bank as Ford and FCA eat shit.

Now why would you put wheels on a doorstop?
Kinda defeats the purpose.

The Citicar was sort of a glorious golf cart.

Oh, I know.
It still looks like a doorstop nonetheless.

I don’t think it’s that bold, probably more likely happen than to not happen. In 5 years small SUV’s will be getting 35mpg using small turbo 4cyl engines with hybrid assist, lighter chassis, and more econonical transmissions. I don’t know if the price of gas will be the biggest factor, or if it will be the $600-1000 in monthly payments.

Agreed, I’m gonna laugh then because buy that time I’ll have bought up ALL of the sedans and hybrids and will sell them at a 300% profit.
Muaaaaa ha ha ha ha haaaaa!!!!!!!

Leave a Focus RS aside for me and you’re good to go.

Even bolder prediction: sometime in the future gas prices will climb back up to $4.50 as a recession happens, people will shit themselves over the next great depression, and all the Chinese automakers that are investing heavily in electric technology will invade the market and establish themselves as viable alternatives. See 1973.

Ill have to start chaining up my mopeds again. Had so many friends get them stolen during the last surge.

Maybe. All I know is my 2016 Escape EcoBoost company car gets about the same average fuel economy in mixed city/highway driving as my Lincoln Town Car does under similar conditions - ca. 21-22mpg.
Somewhere, there’s a disconnect happening between what these small turbo 4s achieve under laboratory conditions, and what they get when being used as real cars in the real world.

One of the main reasons I think this will happen is perception- people perceive SUVs as guzzling while hybrids aren’t, so they’ll trade them in.
The “bold” bit is borderline sarcastic, as this is basically everyone’s prediction for Ford.

I think that’s very likely. In every recession I listed, a new company took advantage. First small US companies, then Europeans, then Japanese companies, and finally Korean companies. I think Chinese companies will make it here eventually, and a recession could be the perfect storm.

I desperately would like to go back there, just because I’m not allowed to.
