Dads excited to see how it ends up. New springs, Bilstein shocks, and new torsion bars. Once they see how it goes, he’s going to price it out and advertise it since these owners will spend the money on it no question.

Bilstein would not have been my choice. Most gas shocks are too hard/stiff in their action for whales like these. Makes the ride jiggly. Especially given they were generally specced with gas/oil or oil shocks. Check out the KYB, Koni or Tough Dog options.

And so eone interested in buying a GX of this vintage...does this happen lot (I’m guessing it does). Since the adjustable suspension is a strong reason why I’m leaning toward a GX, how mich does it cost to repair?

The Bilsteins have been really good on my LS by the biggest thing is they actually changed the torsion bar. That’s usually the issue from what I can tell.

It happens because of age mostly. Here’s your answer on cost. I want a GX470 as well but mine will be an Overland so Old Man Emu conversion and lift to the rescue.

He must be a Hoovie watcher

Lol nah. Customer gets what customer wants. And like I said, LX and Landcruiser people love to spend money on their trucks, even when it’s not worth it.

I guess I achieved full Baller status for repairing my air suspension then..

LX470 didn’t have air suspension, it had hydraulic.

How reliable is the hydraulic suspension on the LX470? I need to know for...reasons

I have vowed to keep my air suspension factory correct (but that’s easy to say since nothing has gone wrong with it). I just can’t imagine having the switches for ride control and up/down adjustments staring at me helplessly, knowing that I failed them. Plus the green light on the dash would probably blink in defiance for an eternity like the telltale heart pounding under the floorboards.

Go bad after 10-15 years, cost $3000 when they do, but then you have 10-15 more years.

That’s what I meant!

Haha pretty much.

Asked my dad about, he said the bilsteins actually give a better ride on the trucks. The KYBs are stiffer. He even went as far to say if you bought a brand new Tundra right now, it would be worth immediately switching for Bilsteins. He has them on his 2014 Platinum and loves them. The hardness of has shocks on these switches is usually because they don’t change out the torsion bar.

That makes some sense...but then I don’t have much experience with road going Lexii!

That’s what I’m looking at for mine as well. I’ve heard that the OME kit can ride kind of rough, but have also heard recommendations for Dobinsons kit (apparently just as capable but more comfortable than OME), as well as Bilstein 6112s and 5110s. I’ve got plenty of time before I have the disposable income to make that choice, so let me know if you end up pulling the trigger on one and lifting it. I honestly can’t recommend them enough.
A few within a day’s drive from you if you’re thinking seriously about it:

Haha that’s pretty much all my dad does. Lexus and Toyota repair shop in Middle Tennessee in one of the wealthiest counties in the country lol. Not a lot of off road Lexi here but it is getting more popular.

Is it fairly easy to swap it to coils?

Hoovie just did it in his channel. The biggest thing is cost. For this stock ride height, really nice suspension kit, just the torsion bars and non hydraulic springs are somewhere around $2k. Then a full set of Bilsteins and 8 hours maybe? Have not been too involved but my dad might have me document and do a write up for advertisement purposes.

I did not know that, and I have one! I just assumed it was air..

I didn’t find out until after I bought mine. Apparently that’s why it holds up a little better than most cars with air shocks.
