I’m heading to Alaska in a few weeks for the Great Alaska Aviation gathering. To my surprise I see that Major Brian Shul will be on hand to entertain attendees with lore of flight at mach 3+ and maybe even I’ll get to hear the tale of !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! .

Kinja'd!!!

Officially his presentation will include:

“THE SPEED OF LIFE | PERSEVERANCE AND TRIUMPH OVER TRAGEDY”
Major Brian Shul, USAF, Retired, Author

A highly motivating, humorous, and fascinating talk that covers some of Mr. Shul’s experiences from lying near death on a jungle floor in Viet Nam, to flying the world’s fastest jet, the SR-71. He also talks about his present day photography and the books he has authored. Coupled with Mr. Shul’s breathtaking slides taken in flight, and his philosophical views on life, this is an unforgettable presentation for all in attendance. Brian Shul is a Vietnam War-era attack pilot and a retired major in the United States Air Force (USAF). He flew 212 combat missions and was shot down near the end of the war. He was so badly burned that he was given next to no chance to live. Surviving, he returned to full flight status, flying the SR-71 Blackbird. Major Shul completed a 20-year career in the Air Force. He has written four books on aviation and runs a photo studio in California.

Fortunately, the 13 hour trip to Anchorage should leave ample time for me to read his book !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!

31 tires?!? Wouldn’t just that take you past max gross weight?

(I flew (commercially) from Orlando to Raleigh this morning; I’m not all with it right now. I first read your note as meaning you were transporting 31 tires. D’oh.)
(In other news, Frontier is the Carnival Cruise Lines of airlines, as near as I can tell. Un-corralled kids running up and down the aisle, pax sitting wherever they like then holding up the boarding process when the actual seatholder arrives, and fees. Oh, the fees. Someone moved to one of the vacant exit row seats, only to be booted by the FA... unless they paid a fee. No carry-on bag - instead, you get a personal item - the size of a small backpack or laptop bag. We were wondering what the fee would be to use the emergency exit, should the necessity arise.)

I guess it depends on how big are the tires? But really, I mean 31 inch bush tires.

I’ve flown Frontier a few times and you definitely get what you pay for.
