Look at that
Remember when liberals were bitching about !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!
!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!
Which, according to Clinton at least, had an important impact into what the voters thought of her and thus she lost to a guy who, under 99% of circumstances, was supposed to be easily beaten.
Lest we forget that Comey was being mocked a year and a half ago by the very man that
!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!
!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!
But now he’s got a book deal, and has made the rounds across the press as a hero, The Guardian, a news site that published an opinion piece a year and a bit ago saying he had made “dubious decisions” and abused his power now uploads he’s in
!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!
Granted, those pieces were written by different people and it is the opinion section so it’s normal that they have different views. But it does paint a picture of just how much people were moved by his actions; we can’t forget how much of an impact this man has had in modern American politics as director of the FBI, how much impact he’s to have as a private citizen, and how he managed to sway public opinion around, somehow angering and pleasing everyone at different times.

“The enemy of my enemy is my friend” is frequently tried, but rarely works well in the end. witness U.S. foreign policy towards the Middle East.

Hmm
Seems like The Onion and Clickhole are the biggest authorities in journalism that can be reflective of past actions of an individual

The American public has no tolerance for nuance.
The American media has even less.

Strange times call for stranger alliances, my guess is that liberals would go to bed with the devil just to get rid of Trump, which in terms of morality it’s dubious.

I thought the Guardian was from Manchester.... oh it’s the American column.
Well, neither are Mexicans, we either see people as bad or as good and those interpretations can change with the strike of a key when typing an address or promising something... it’s shameful that we reduce complex people with complex motivations to either “good” or “bad” and the ramifications can be seen

the problem always ends up being that once you and your “friend” eliminate your enemy, your “friend” inevitably becomes your new enemy.

Hot take: Comey is a professional, ethical civil servant whose decades of service to the country aren’t invalidated by mistakes made by him in trying to do what he thought the right thing, the public perception of Comey has changed due to facts and circumstances surrounding him and the FBI investigation coming to light through investigative journalism and other trustworthy, unbiased sources, and his recent book tour is an effort to cut through Trump’s lies and bullshit and inform the public about the truth behind his actions and dismissal rather rehabilitate himself for his own gain.
Hotter take: If your dickhead boss fired you and used his position as the most powerful man in the world to repeatedly insult and slander you to millions of people for absolutely no reason other than he’s a petty child, anyone would be hard-pressed to say no when someone offers you a million-dollar book deal and a platform to respond.
Hottest take: It’ll be about twenty years before the full Trump-Russia story comes out so these kinds of takes are pretty much useless right now

Well, that’s why my hope lies predominantly with Mueller and if Trump actually broke any laws. If democrats win again and are confronted with perhaps offering Comey a job, I hope they remember how that whole affair started and decline. Lets see if he gets a juicy book out of that one!

Just another grifter in this era of graft and trash.
I’m more interested in Mueller and what Cohen will do next, and how 45 will continue to fail to implement real sanctions, fail to criticise Putin, continue to kiss up to dictators and support regressives, etc.

Is there a limit on how long something could be classified in the US?
I know he’s not evil, and no one is perfect, but I can’t bring myself out to believe that he released information about Hillary for reasons other than to sway the election, and this book tour to me seems like self aggrandizing.
The man has a right to evolve, and make decisions as he sees fit, my question really lies with the public who would easily dismiss him and just as easily bring him back into the conversation.... why do this?

This Benjamin Wittes article explains the context of the Comey letter better than I ever could. Tl:dr he wanted the public to have the full facts, problem is both sides bastardized the original intent of the letter for their own gain.
My take on it is that if the public wants to change their view of Comey based on new information they are more than welcome to do it, that’s exactly how you should form opinions. Furthermore, there’s so much lies and bullshit coming from the Trump White House that any semblance of authenticity and truth should be welcomed even from a previously-vilified source who turns out to be one of the only professionals involved in this whole mess. Again why I said the full truth won’t come out for a long time, the Trump-Russia story is so complicated and nuanced that the players and plotlines change nearly every week, and so follows public opinion.

Shame on me, I didn’t read the article that you linked. Otherwise I wouldn’t have assumed it was an American rag... my bad!
Regardless, I think we can agree that The Media exists to whip up frenzies. That’s what sells, that’s what get attention. That much is obvious no matter which country you’re in.
I think James Comey, for better or worse, is just doing his job. Now, what are his motivations? who does he answer to? These are important questions, but they don’t get the clicks.

That’s the real issue. Comey is sort of a side show seeking relevance. It’s distracting from the real issue with the shitshow that is the 45 presidency. Though his interviews and book lends credence to the characterization that 45 is completely unethical scum.

What about Comey keeping quiet about investigating Trump, who was also a terrible candidate?
I swear the US would’ve been better with that crazy guy, ex New Mexico governor mr. forgot the name

In Comey’s NPR intreview last night, he explained it as he felt justified to go back and alert the public since he had made a statement already, while no statement had been made on Russia to that point at all. Furthermore, the media had discussed interference, meaning the public was not in the dark.
![]() 04/18/2018 at 18:03 |
|
Yes, but if Anderson Cooper says there was interference I could give two shits; if the Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation said it I’d get chills down my spine! It’s a completely different context.
The thing is, Comey did it for a reason. I don’t know why and we won’t know because the FBI is busy with Trump, perhaps Hilary is actually nefarious and he had no other way of preventing her win.

I think it is a deliberate distraction - the business with L’il Kim is, too. Even if 45 himself isn’t in bed with the Russians personally (possibly innocent, but then again, real estate = money laundering, and the Russians are experts), I have little doubt many in his inner circle are, a good chance including his kids.
Not that I don’t believe Comey’s descriptions, as you describe.
