Kinja'd!!!1 Kinja'd!!! 16

This number is stamped on Rat-L-Trap’s frame behind the cab and before the rear suspension.

I know S-10s are supposed to have a number under the passenger door on the frame. This is too far aft for that. This would be under the bed even in stock setup.

Anyways I sprayed some yellow paint on it and wiped it off. Can anyone make out these numbers? I am seeing 263371.

Did you wire brush and brakleen it?

I see 263371 but might not have come up with that if you didn’t give the hint.

I didn’t brake clean it but I did wire brush. I’ll hit it up again when I get off work. I think I need to come up with 3 more characters.

Use a pencil and make a rubbing of it.

Yes! I’ll give that a shot.

YMMV but when I’ve needed to raise numbers of of block decks I had to really get in there with the brush and such. As with yours, some of the stampings can be light.

If you *really* need to know, sand it with 100 grit and use a 50/50 water/muriatic acid solution to etch the metal. But that’s a last resort.

I’ll be interested to hear if it works.

I would agree, except that they’re hand stamped letters, and therefore positioned at the discretion of someone with extremely minimal fucks to give.

I don’t *really* need to know. These s-10's didn’t really change much.

Hand stamped? That would explain why they’re so wonky and light.

I’m seeing the same as you. For the record I didn’t see your number until after looking at the picture, so that’s probably it.

If I’m not mistaken, it’s actually easier to make sure of a good letter relief with a cast part, because you can have an interchangeable block out of whateverthefuck/chinesium, and you’re only molding the casting material. This, on the other hand, is hard to set up a die with revolving numbers or swapped elements and have it hit during production, because it’s a hot form of really hard steel. And you can’t really automate putting them on with a die later that well, because you need a hell of an impact for all the letters at once or to put the frame and die in a big press.

Much easier to come back and strike the letters one at a time, or rivet on a plate. Even if the strike-monkey is drunk.

I can’t see a 6 but agree with the rest of the numbers. I am also looking on my phone though.
