The engine blew at 30,000 feet. Nobody was sucked out of the airplane. One passenger died. The pilot was a woman.

Why is it noteworthy that the pilot was a woman?

Well, to be fair, there are still a lot of people out there who believe that women ‘can’t handle’ that type of job, so it’s nice to see such crystal clear evidence that those people don’t know shit.

Somewhere on Facebook there’s probably some asshats arguing that the engine failure never would have happened if the pilot was a man.

I’d say “badass” is more meaningful than “woman” as a descriptor in this case.
I don’t know how anyone can say “we have part of the aircraft missing” without their voice going several octaves and decibels higher.

I’m more of a “half not sucked out” kind of a person.

In the piece about her background, as a young student, she went to a career fair and the guy said that women don’t get jobs being a pilot.
