2018 Sienna- 7 Seater, 296 HP, 0-60 in 7 seconds flat, Available AWD and all safety tech with a no-nonsense simple yet functional interior. Do you really need a crossover like a Pilot/Pathfinder/Highlander?

I like the previous gen Sienna’s front clip far more than the current Sienna’s. Too much Toyota fishface going on...

I thought minivans had awful rear end safety (in the case of someone rear ending you) but that was a long time ago, maybe now its better?

agree - they make a fabulous do everything vehicle for folks that need the space. That Toyota is the one i’d get currently. I really liked the first and 2nd gen (full size) Hondas too, but the new ones with the weird styling bug me even though they have a nice technical package. They are still a fairly good value too.

Eh, our Odyssey does well in any condition, even without AWD. I never really liked the interior quality of Sienna’s or the look of them. Odyssey isn’t bad looking to me, don’t know what’s up with all the hate.

Bought a new Sienna SE two months ago. Full review being written in my head currently. To be finished whenever it surfaces through the other thoughts.

Toyota’s interior quality for the past decade or so has been consistently disappointing.

I’m all for minivans instead of crossovers but I’m also very ehhh on modern Toyotas. They’re probably still durable and reliable, and you can get all the expected modern gizmos, but they also feel cheap and engineered to a price point with cost cutting evident throughout. But if you want an awd minivan it’s basically the Sienna or the Sienna.

I’ll still take our pacifica over this one. Very nice place to be for family trips, and ours seats 8. Winter tires make the need for AWD moot.

My wife’s argument was that she didn’t want to live with the half a foot of length this had over a pilot, every single day, for the 6 days a year it’d be nice to have. It’s a good point.

This is Canada we’re talking about. Approx 2 million people die there because of lack of AWD and/or Winter tires? You could LITERALLY DIE, MAN! Also you need that AWD to put that neck-snapping power down.

I’d still take our suburban even though it’s a hunk of shit. It has great passing power and will happily cruise at 85-90 all day long. It’s actually able to go off road and get back home. Also driving a minivan is terrible, both physically and mentally.

Plus if you get it or slightly smaller Tahoe in one of the right colors, people move out of your way. Thus getting you home from your mini-vacation quicker. I shaved 45 minutes off a 3 hour drive today! 85 mph the whole way!

Counterpoint: My minivan runs the quarter in 15.2, takes us off-road everywhere, averages 24mpg, and still feels tight/responsive.

Your minivan is definitely an exception, but New minivans with 20 inch wheels and low profile tires don’t help them.

Kinja'd!!!

There’s no way an awd minivan can make it through deep soft sand where we go off-roading. I’ve seen many Jeeps stuck in the sand up to their frames, granted a lot of that is skill, but no way is a minivan making it out there.

I don’t know, really. I love minivans, and the utility they bring, and the performance is getting better, but my Wife refuses to own one, and it doesn’t make sense for me to commute in one, soo.....

My wife and I are currently shopping newer used Siennas and Odysseys. Im curious to give the Sienna a test drive if we can find one. Minivans dont seem to stay on the market very long, not reasonably priced ones at least.

No, because the Sienna is fucking terrible to drive. The steering wheel doesn’t seem to have any connection to the front wheels, and it’s exhausting over long distances. On top of that the cruise control is useless on anything other than flat ground, it lets the speed sink way past the set speed and then kicks down multiple gears and floors the gas, taking you up past your set speed so it can start the cycle all over again.

No. Thank. You.

Sure it’s unique but does it have 2 DVD players?  In-Cabin Spying Systems? Not two but Triple-Zone Climate Control? and a 4GLTE Wifi network so that the kids can watch their favorite shows on the go (and avoid all human interaction with their parents)?

I used to refuse to own one. Then we had our 3rd kid and looked at all the options for carting kids. The minivan is by far the best vehicle for carrying children.

I’m thankful my wife carries my view on CUVs: They’re all just less useful minivans. People that buy them only do so to uphold an image that doesn’t exist.

Wheels/tires can be changed. I’ve never had an issue due to lack of traction with my van. Any time I’ve been stuck has been due to lack of clearance, at which I have as much as pretty much every modern SUV/CUV, so they’d have had the same issue.

Nope, it has no useless features for sake of having useless features. Yet it still manages to do everything I need it to and then some, while carting my family comfortably without worry.

Yeah. We have a Crosstrek, which I like a lot, and the wife likes a lot, and it’s adequate. I wish she would have agreed to go with the Outback at the time, but she likes smaller cars. With only two kids, though, we get by ok. Just moved my boy to front facing today, so that should make it nicer for me to drive.

That’s how I swung getting the AT2s on my van. Since then, we’ve both been extremely happy it. They wear excellent on a van seeings they’re truck tires and they go through everything.

I use valid reasoning for “upgrades/mods” and 9/10 times the wife has no argument.
